Watch the adorable moment this dog teaches a baby to jump
Families with both a dog and a baby know just how cute they can be together. Chances are your family pet is always watching over the little ones. It is this close bond that makes the relationship between a dog and a baby so adorable. In one instance, this closeness led to a dog accidentally teaching a baby how to jump.
Dogs are good for a child’s development
According to researchers, babies who are a part of a family with a dog tend to be happier as they grow older. This is due to the elevated levels of serotonin and dopamine in the baby’s body resulting from their relationship with the family pet. These chemicals help a baby to feel good, leading to a healthier child who develops well mentally and emotionally.
Teaching a baby to jump
In the case above, the baby, named Alexis, was using a jumper set up in a doorway. The dog, named Day, was standing there watching Alexis when he noticed her shadow. The thing about Day, according to Alexis’ mom, Sabrina Sauve, is that he is fascinated with shadows. So, Day did what only came naturally to him; he started playing with Alexis’ shadow.
As Day started to jump around, Alexis caught on as well, and soon the two were jumping around, with Alexis giggling her head off. It wasn’t intentional on Day’s part, but Alexis seemed to enjoy the interaction going on between Day and her shadow. Her excitement only seemed to drive Day to even greater heights as he continued to jump along with her.
The video of the two goes viral
Sauve was able to capture the whole interaction on video and put it up on her YouTube channel. It has gotten over 10 million views and over 28,000 likes, proving that there are few things more irresistible than a laughing baby and a jumping dog.
How to make sure that your baby and dog get along
If you have a dog and are planning on adding a baby to the family dynamic, there are a few things you can do first to ensure that everything goes smoothly. Keep in mind that a new baby can be overwhelming for some dogs, especially with the many new sights, sounds, and smells they are presented with.
Chances are that your daily schedule will also change because of the new child, with your dog getting less of your time. Your best bet is to start to prepare your dog for the new arrival months in advance. This can include trying to get them used to the sounds a baby makes and some of the smells associated with a baby.
You should also start making the necessary changes to your dog’s schedule early on so they are ready when the big day arrives.
You will probably need to train your dog, if they aren’t already, so that you can control them when they are around the baby. This includes the basics, such as sit, stay, and come, as well as the command to go away. This allows you to control their interactions with your child and hopefully keep any stress levels in your pet to a minimum.
Fortunately, baby Alexis and Day seem to get along just fine. By watching them you might even think they are two peas in a pod. Here is the adorable video of Day teaching Alexis to jump.
