Dog visits best friend’s grave miles away every single day

Leonardo and Fulmine were the best of friends. They lived together in the Italian countryside, Fulmine a little brown dog, and Leonardo his owner. But then one day everything changed and Leonardo passed away, leaving Fulmine heartbroken and alone in the world.

But, as the little dog was soon to prove, he wasn’t going to forget his former owner any time soon.

While Leonardo was sick, his family took care of Fulmine. The family, including Leonardo’s daughter Sara Sechi, could clearly see how much Fulmine missed his owner.

“Every time a car approached, Fulmine would run to the gate in case it was my father,” Sechi told The Dodo.

Even after Leonardo had passed away, Fulmine never gave up hope that he would return to his owner. Fulmine never stopped looking for Leonardo, and eventually, he was able to find him, or at least his grave.

A surprise visitor

The day after her father had passed away, Sara and her son went to the cemetery to lay some flowers by his graveside. When they arrived, they were surprised to see Fulmine sitting there at his former owner’s final resting place.

It seemed the devoted dog had walked two miles from his home in the countryside to where Leonardo’s body now lay. Somehow, Fulmine knew that was where his beloved owner was now.

“I did not expect to find him there,” Sechi said. “He hadn’t been at the funeral. I have no idea how he knew where to go.”

And it wasn’t just the one time. Fulmine has been seen at the cemetery constantly. No one has any clue how he found his owner’s grave, only that he knows where it is located and makes an effort to visit when he can.

“We think he goes there every day,” Sechi said. “I like to think he’s guided by his love for my father. Or that my father led him there. It’s one of those strange things without a real explanation.”

Fortunately, Fulmine does not have to face his heartache alone. Sara has taken o0n Fulmine as her own, caring for him in her father’s absence. Together they can face the prospect of life without Sara’s father.

“It makes me emotional to think about how much my father loved Fulmine, and how much Fulmine loves him,” Sechi said. “It’s sad to see him grieving, but we will slowly overcome this sad moment together.”

For as long as Sara and Fulmine never forget about Leonardo, his legacy will continue to live on in their hearts.
