Dog refuses to leave empty house for weeks after family moves away and leaves him behind

Every dog deserves affection from a loving family. Not every family deserves a loyal dog, however. A very sad truth is that many dog owners do not reciprocate the loyalty and devotion to their pets that their pets give to them.

This is the story of a loyal dog named Cupid. He once had a family but they simply abandoned him. They picked up and moved houses but left their dog behind, never to return for him. That family did not deserve a dog like Cupid, but Cupid didn’t know he deserved better than them.

One day, Cupid’s family just left.

Imagine watching the people you care about, and the people who you believed cared about you just pack up and leave without you. That’s what Cupid experienced. He was left all alone, not knowing if or when anyone was coming back for him.

Cupid had been abandoned.

Concerned neighbors realized that the family had left their dog behind. They called the Speranza Animal Hospital to report that Cupid was still sleeping on the porch of the house and did not appear to have anyone looking after him.

Janine Guido, founder of the organization, documented everything that happened in a post on Facebook.

“This is what your dog does, When you move out and leave him behind….” the post begins.

“I got a call this afternoon regarding your dog. That has been roaming around Harrisburg since you moved out. And more often than not he was seen lying on your porch.”

Cupid tries to break into the home.

Poor, broken-hearted Cupid tried desperately to get back into the home. Maybe his family was inside? Why is nobody letting him in? He must have been so sad and so confused. What a horrible act the family committed.

Janine did her best to comfort Cupid and let him know she was there to help.

“The next time I approached your dog on the porch he sat there. He wasn’t interested in my food. He wasnt interested in me. He wanted back inside your house. He once again clawed at your door , but no one was there to let him in.”

Janine takes Cupid with her.

This was obviously a very emotional situation for Janine as well. She felt for Cupid, she felt his heart-break and shared it with the world on Facebook.

“The next time he came back to your porch i spoke to him and told him im here to help. Help to get him off the streets.”

“At that moment it was like your dog understood. He didnt bolt. He walked up to me and sat down. Allowing me to leash him.”

Cupid now has a permanent home with Speranza Animal Rescue.

The rescue decided to take Cupid in and he has become a permanent member of their family. Everyone loves him and he is a happy guy despite his past heartbreak.
