Dog saves man’s life by waking up wife when he is having a heart attack
Not only are our dogs our companions, they are our friends. After being with a dog for a while they pick up on the little cues that let them know when it is time to go for a walk, eat, or go to bed. For one Minnesota couple, their German shepherd is also a medical emergency detector.
Mary Lynn is awakened by her dog Lucy during the night
The couple, Mary Lynn and her husband Eric had settled in for the night. Mary Lynn had fallen asleep but was awakened by the couple’s German shepherd, Lucy She was acting strangely and the dog owner was at a loss as to why. She soon discovered the reason and now Lucy is being hailed as a hero.
Mary Lynn performs CPR on her husband
As Mary Lynn tried to determine why Lucy was acting so strangely, she soon found her answer. Her husband Eric was having a heart attack. Acting quickly, Mary Lyn first called 911. Then, Mary Lynn performed CPR while she waited for the ambulance to arrive. Once paramedics arrived, Eric was stabilized and taken to the hospital.
Lucy is being hailed as a hero
Without Lucy’s wakeup call, Mary Lynn’s quick action, and the professionalism of the medical personnel, Eric might not still be here. He has since made a full recovery, all thanks to Lucy who woke up her mom when she noticed her dad was in trouble.

Other dogs saving their owners in an emergency
In addition to Lucy, other dogs have come through for their owners when they needed it. In once case, a Michigan man slipped and fell in the snow, breaking his neck in the process. His golden retriever stayed with him for 20 hours, barking until his neighbor was alerted and found him.
There is also the story of Ted, the collie mix. One day Ted began to cry and paw at his owner’s chest, who thought it was strange coming from the often-unaffectionate dog. After going to the doctor, it was discovered that she had an aggressive tumor in her breast. Without Ted’s early warning, the tumor could have gotten way worse.
In another instance, Sako the German shepherd stayed with his owner following a car accident. Not only did the dog keep his owner warm at night, but he also drove off some wild coyotes. Here is a video with more dogs that have saved their owners’ lives.
