Sweet dog nervously watches over her toy as mom performs “surgery”
Most dogs have a favorite toy that they like to play with. They usually carry this toy, whether it is made of plastic, cloth, or some other material, with them wherever they go. In many cases, when their favorite toy gets damaged, their owner replaces it with another.
Sometimes, though, the dog loves their favorite toy so much that they insist that their owner fix it and make everything right.
Abby loves her toys
Abby the black Labrador was one such dog who had a favorite toy that had gotten damaged. A rescue, Abby has always taken good care of her toys, according to her mom. She never treats her toys as if they are disposable and cherishes each one of them.
One day as her mom was sitting there, Abby brought a toy to her. The toy, a giraffe plushie, had become badly tattered. In one spot, the stuffing could be seen popping out. Abby waited anxiously nearby as she waited for her owner to do something to fix it.
At first, Abby’s mom thought about buying a new toy for her, but she realized that Abby’s toys were irreplaceable and that simply would not do.

So, taking the toy in hand, she sat down and started to sew up the torn part of the toy with needle and thread. Abby sat patiently by, a worried look on her face, as her mom slowly repaired the rip.
In a video of the incident, Abby’s mom can be heard consoling her in the background while Abby sits there, seemingly on the brink of tears.
Abby was glad to have her toy back
Abby was so happy to get her toy back and jumped up to grab it as her mom held it out for her.
In the video, which was published on YouTube and has been viewed over 789,000 times, you could see how happy she was by the way her tail was wagging at the end of the video. This was all thanks to her mom’s quick needlework.
Why do dogs have a favorite toy?
Dog owners might wonder why a dog would become attached to a particular toy. And while no one knows the definite answer behind the mystery, some think they might know a few reasons for this behavior. In some cases, a dog might get attached to a toy because it reminds them of a puppy. This is especially true of female dogs due to their motherly instinct.
In other cases, such as with a dog with a high drive to hunt, a toy might represent something that they can tear into like they would when encountering an animal in the wild. Toys that make noise can also reinforce this need to hunt in breeds bred for such activity.
A final reason is a dog attaching a moment of significance to the toy, such as a favorite memory with a human. This makes you wonder what dogs can actually remember. Dogs do remember things and people, most often through smell, so maybe the smell of the toy reminds them of that particular moment.
