These good Golden dogs help deliver ‘quarantine beer’ and are doing a great job

Buddy and Barley are the adorable resident dogs at Long Island’s microbrewery Six Harbors Brewing Company in Huntington, New York.

Things have been hard on the pups’ parents, Karen and Mark Heuwetter, because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Like so many food and drink establishments, they’ve had to shut their doors and switch to carry out and delivery only.

But the Heuwetters came up with the perfect way to get their fur-kids further involved in the family business – they put them to work.

The “Brew Dogs” are now helping to bring beer to customers – and they’re doing it with a smile!

You can now find Buddy and Barley riding in the back of their parents’ pickup ready to deliver cases of beer to those in quarantine and in need of a nice, cold brew.

The dogs love to go on rides and seem perfectly pleased with their new roles as employees.

Part of the shtick is that the dogs approach the door of those who have ordered delivery with the beer cans around their necks. But these are no big, heavy Saint Bernards.

That’s why the cans are empty.

To top it off, as cute as it would be to unleash your six-pack from an adorable dog, no one wants shaken up beer – and these pups like to run!

So when a customer makes an order for delivery, Buddy and Barley instead run up to their door with the empty beer cans around their necks to alert them that the real stuff is on the way.

Karen Heuwetter told CBS that dogs enjoy their new jobs, partly because it allows them to get some exercise – and they love meeting new people. Of course, those new people are bound to be extra nice if seeing the dogs signals a beer delivery.

“When they go out and make people smile, I think people really like that. In fact, people need that these days, so when they put a smile on people’s faces they’re doing their job — which, by nature, is easy for them,” she said.

Once Buddy and Barley make their introduction, a human delivery person hands over the goods – wearing a mask and gloves, of course.

In fact, the dogs help the brewery owner maintain social distance while still making a fun connection to their customers.

Buddy and Barley aren’t the only delivery dogs around these days – in fact, other breweries AND wineries are utilizing man’s best friend as harbingers of booze arrivals.

For example, Stonehouse Urban Winery in Maryland is using their 11-year-old Boxer, Soda Pup, to deliver wine for curbside pickup.

While profits are still down significantly due to the outbreak, these creative business owners have been able to recoup some income thanks to their 4-legged friends.

And people are loving the new customer service!
