Adorable dogs earn 40+ million views for the sweet way they tend to baby deer

Depending on who you are, playing an impromptu babysitter can be fun or a nightmare. It’s hard enough with a human child but imagine a furry, four-legged one.

And I’m not talking about cats or dogs.

This is honeysada, a YouTube channel run by a nature-loving man and his pets. He uploaded this video of a mother deer and two fawns in his yard.

But that’s not all the camera caught.

Clearly, he gets regular visitors from the local wildlife. A mother deer and two nearly newborn fawns appeared in his yard.

All he expected was for the two fawns to learn how to walk before leaving with their mom. This wasn’t the case.

The fawns born were twins, but there was one thing that they weren’t totally alike in.

One of them had trouble walking.

While one fawn gets up and prances along with mom without a problem, the other one struggles to take even a couple of steps.

This isn’t good for a deer family, and mother deer respond to weak offspring in only one way.

She had to abandon it.

Knowing that this fawn would be too weak to survive along with her and the other one, she abandons it and leaves with the other twin.

The property owner did what we all expected.

He cared for it himself.

He took the fawn in and watched over it for now. Deer aren’t the only wildlife in these parts. In the same video, honeysada films a brown bear and a wolf wandering around the same area.

Plenty of predators who’d easily gobble up a defenseless fawn.

Having taken the fawn in, honeysada now had to make accommodations for their unlikely houseguest.

His dogs and cats aren’t immediately comfy with the new guest. At least it’s safe in there with them despite its wonky leg.

Now heoneysada’s got a new problem.

While he figures out how to treat the fawn’s leg, he also needs everyone in the home to get along. Dog, cat, or deer.

His cats seem the tensest around it, as cats tend to be.

Using an old box, he made a makeshift cast for the fawn’s leg. He also bottle-fed it and watched it all day.

As cute as the fawn is, some helping hands would be very welcome.

It’s a good thing that didn’t take long. His pets eventually warmed up to the fawn and made it feel included in their little household.

In particular, his Bernese Mountain Dog.

The Bernese Mountain dog took to babysitting duty with some enthusiasm. With breed’s size, it made a convenient foster dad to the fawn.

And it just got better from there.

Wherever the fawn went, the dog was sure to go. I think that’s how the nursery rhyme goes, no? In any case, the dog grew pretty protective of the fawn.

It wouldn’t let it get anywhere dangerous, and he’d even bark to alert the fawn of something suspicious.

We’re looking at a foster dad who walks on four legs. I think he did a pretty good job looking after the fawn, don’t you?

But kids have got to go on their own eventually. Once the fawn’s leg was strong enough, honeysada made preparations to let her back into the wild.

Hopefully, she finds her real mom or someone to fill that role.

Honeysada tried to reunite them.

He tried evening after evening to find the fawn’s mom. Day after day was unsuccessful. But results won’t show unless you keep at it.

One fruitful evening, he finally found the mom! He sent the fawn back to where it belonged, bidding goodbye for a very, very long time.

And all that time it spent with this man and his pets paid off. When Honeysada revisited the spot in the fields that they frequent, he spotted the fawn with its twin and mom.

It was all healthy, strong, and quite a bit larger than before! To think that it owes much of its life to a man and his loving dog.
