Woman sees dog waiting in front of hospital for months, realizes he's waiting for deceased owner

Dogs are loyal animals. They have so much love to give and loves everyone who comes into their lives.

When their humans are in trouble, they will do everything to defend them, protect them, and always be by their side.

Take, for example, this dog in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

His owner was stabbed in a local park and rushed to the Santa Casa de Novo Horizonte Medical Center.

This dog rushed after the ambulance so he can be with his owner. He stopped at the hospital entrance and didn’t attempt to enter.

He simply waited for his owner.

Unfortunately, his owner had died.

But he continued to wait. He waited for four months.

He left only to find food but he would always come back. Sometimes, the hospital staff gives him food and water while he waited.

That’s where Cristine Sardella, a local resident visiting the hospital, found him. At first, she thought he was a stray dog, which was pretty common in Brazil.

“He would get up to let people pass by, very politely, and then lay right back down again,” Cristine told The Dodo. “He was educated and tame.”

But when she asked around, they said he was the pet of a patient who had passed away.

And he continued to wait for his owner to come out.

“We have a lot to learn from animals. This dog stays every day at the door of the holy house again waiting for its owner who unfortunately passed away. I hear it’s fed by some people. Waiting for him is in vain, but the love he nurtures for the owner is eternal. I also observe the respect that holy house staff has for him. And so, follow life, animals teaching men true love,” Cristine Sardella wrote on Facebook.

And even if they told him about his owner’s passing, they wouldn’t know for sure if he would have understood what they said. That’s why the hospital staff did what they could to help him out.

“It’s sad to know that he will never see his owner again and will not understand what happened,” Cristine said. “The only thing left is to wait at the last place where he saw him.”

Cristine also arranged for a local animal rescue organization to pick up the dog. They took him and brought him to their shelter so they can make arrangements for his adoption.

But the dog managed to escape!

“He fled across the city,” Cristine shared. “He walked over 3 kilometers and returned to the hospital.”

For now, they are waiting for the dog to be ready to move on. Once he is, a staff member from the hospital is ready to adopt him.

The hospital’s director, Osvaldo Sobrinho, is also making arrangements to have him checked by a veterinarian and get vaccinated so he can be ready for adoption anytime by the hospital staff member.

“He will have a very affectionate home with our employee,” Osvaldo Sobrinho said.

This is not the first time that a dog has gone to great lengths for their humans. There are numerous stories of dogs who braved the way to be with their humans.

Sissy the Schnauzer traveled 20 blocks by herself to the hospital where her human mom was admitted. She stayed outside the entrance because she couldn’t figure out how to look for her mom inside.

Zander, the 7-year-old, 70-lb Samoyed-Husky, traveled two miles, across a nature reserve, stream, and busy 4 lane highway, just to get to his human at the hospital.
