Talented dogs set world record for most tricks performed in a minute

How many tricks can your dog do in under a minute?

A high-five, then a handshake? Maybe the most basic yet very important combination of sit, follow, and stay? Believe it or not, one trainer managed to do more tricks than you can teach your dog and she did all of that in one minute.

If that’s not impressive enough for you, she did it only with one, but with two dogs. And lucky for us, this record-breaking event is caught on camera for all of us to see.

Emily Larlham achieved the Guinness World Records title for most tricks performed by a dog duo.

In a video posted by the famous record-keeping organization, Larlham, together with border collies Wish and Halo, performed 28 tricks in sixty seconds. That means, they only have about 2 seconds for each one, which involves the process of listening, processing, executing, and waiting for the next command.

The tricks featured included the most fundamental but those that we can barely teach our dogs like sit, down, and give paw. It also included the more complicated ones like spinning in a specific direction, weaving through legs, and the low crawl.

In the same video, she achieved another record for the said low crawl with the fastest done in 5 meters. It not only showed her capability as a trainer but the ability of her dogs to understand and turn that into action.

Larlham runs the Dogmantics Dog Training center based in California.

More than that, she is also well-known on YouTube where she’s posting dog training videos. She has posted more than 350 videos on her channel Kikopup. She aims to build a better relationship between owners and dogs through materials that are easily accessible for everyone.

She began her career in dog training 15 years ago when she met Kyle Rayon. She shared that her training regimen involves positive reinforcement. This type of training gives dogs incentives for doing things correctly instead of punishing them when they’re doing it wrong.

Whenever her dogs succeed in following commands, it’s usually followed by dog treats or affirmative words like “good” and “yes”. Any forms of “physical and psychological intimidation” are not included.

Larlham said the journey is not as easy as it looks.

According to her interview with Daily Paws, she shared that training two dogs to do tricks simultaneously is hard in itself. But to achieve the record, she also had to train them to do it quickly. To achieve this, she had to train the dogs to perform smaller sets of tricks then combine them into a whole routine.

“I was thrilled when they got through the whole sequence of tricks!” Larlham said to Daily Paws. “The hardest part was for me to remember the order to ask the tricks, and ask for them so quickly!”

But no matter how hard it was, she said that achieving the record was also a great way to share the power and effectiveness of positive reinforcement training.
