Woman changes the lyrics to “Jolene” and has the internet cracking up

Do you remember the hit song “Jolene”?

It is one of the iconic songs of Dolly Parton. The song was inspired when Carl Dean, her husband, went to a local bank and got flirted by a woman with red-flaming hair.

Parton made a song out of the incident and had the lyrics “please don’t take my man.”

The title “Jolene” was inspired when a fan named “Jolene” on stage and wanted her autograph. And voila! The song “Jolene” was made.

Here we have a woman named Garnetta Rickett, a talented artist that specializes in parodies.

Rickett made videos of herself doing parodies of many singers such as Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.

Rickett’s parody of the song “Jolene” went viral and landed her a guest spot on the Bob & Sheri morning talk show.

During the talk show, Sheri talked about her reaction after she saw the parody.

She said she was “on the floor snort laughing.”

Sheri asked Rickett why did she chose the song “Jolene” to make a parody. Rickett answered; “Well, I had a lot of friends at the time complaining about their husbands or boyfriends being underfoot.”

Rickett rambled on and told them that she listens to Dolly Parton all the time and “Jolene” was her favorite in particular.

The idea popped into her head when she was listening to Jolene on a YouTube video.

Rickett’s parody is not your typical changing-of-the-lyrics parody.

She also used a costume and a prop that emphasizes the meaning of her parody.

“Please come to get my man”

In the original “Jolene” song, Parton was telling Jolene not to take her man.

But in Rickett’s version, she wanted Jolene to take her man. Rickett was wearing a bathrobe with her wild hair mess which tells that she is stressed with her man and begging that someone will get him away from her.

Her facial expressions are on point.

When Rickett sang “He’s big and strong, like a bear, he even has all his hair, but I cannot stand him, Jolene.”

Her facial expressions showed that she really wanted Jolene to take her man. Talk about skills.

The quarantine is not helping.

Rickett continued singing and said “All he does is sleep and eat, I’m tired of his smelly feet, I’ve really had enough of him, Jolene.” Then she takes a sip of wine and continues, “This quarantine is killing me and I just can’t hardly see spending another minute with him, Jolene.”

The parody lasted for 3 minutes. But those 3 minutes are full of fun and laughter.

The number comment is a funny one, and it says; “My name is Joelene– I’m cracking up at this & no I don’t want her man”
