What would happen if your teacher caught you doodling instead of listening to class?

You’d get in trouble, right?

Your teacher will probably send you to the principal’s office or get detention.

10-year old Joe Whale loved art.

And he was sorrowful that he couldn’t practice his art in school. And his teachers most likely felt the same way because they only reprimanded him for doodling in his textbooks instead of getting him into big trouble.

“Joe is a really talented little boy…but drawing is definitely what he is most passionate about,” his dad, Greg Whale, said. “He was in school and frustrated at the little amount of art he could do so he used to doodle on the table’s whiteboard in class and get into trouble for doodling.”

Joe’s not a bad student.

But Joe’s love and passion for art are bigger.

“One day, he came home from school a bit deflated because they weren’t doing much art, so we decided to find him some extra art classes,” Greg told Insider.

Greg and his wife enrolled Joe in an after-school art class called Bloom, where Joe impressed his teacher with his art skills.

Joe’s teacher said Joe’s doodles were a rare talent for children his age. And that rare talent was enough for his teacher to move him up to a more advanced class.

“His work is very exact and immaculate, it’s very balanced, he goes straight to ink and creates perfect work straight from the start, no practising beforehand,” his art teacher said.

But she didn’t stop there.

She asked Joe if she could post his drawings on her social media account. And it was a hit!

So many people loved his works. In fact, there’s one particular person who loved Joe’s doodles. Or should we say, a few people?

The staff of Number 4, a local restaurant in Shrewsbury, England, reached out to Joe’s parents and asked if Joe could do some design work for them.

They had an eight-foot white wall in their dining area and they wanted to cover it with Joe’s doodles.

Greg loved this great opportunity for Joe but it worried him how Joe can fill up the entire wall.

Joe didn’t like duplicating his doodles. This project might make him do that.

The chance to show his art excited Joe though and he agreed to do it. Greg drove him to the restaurant after school every day so Joe could work on his masterpiece.

Joe seemed to get better and better. It was sparking even more creativity because of the scale of the wall. It was unbelievable to watch,” Greg recalled. “I was sitting there in awe a little bit. He would look back at the wall like he was stuck, sigh a little bit, and go back and come up with 20 more images at once.”

It took Joe around 12 hours to complete the masterpiece and they loved it.

And Greg and his wife are just proud of his son for his accomplishments.

“Joe loves doodling and we’re so proud of everything he’s achieving, the fact that a completely independent business has asked our … son to do a professional piece of work for them is incredible,” Greg added.

And Joe’s parents were so proud of him and his talents.

They created a website and his own social media accounts to showcase his art. And everything they sell on the website will go towards Joe’s education.

“We just thought if there’s an opportunity to help Joe moving forward to do whatever he wants to do, we should put in every effort to make that happen,” Greg said. “We just post some doodles that he does and that he wants to share.”
