Single dad turns an old double-decker bus into a gorgeous home-on-wheels for him and his daughter

Say hello to Adam Collier.

He’s a 42-year-old carpenter from Brighton, United Kingdom with a passion for making dreams come true.

Collier, along with his teenage daughter Devan, enjoy riding the waves out at the beach and wanted to do it in style.

So one day when he drove past an old double-decker bus, the wheels in his own head starting spinning.

What if he could convert it into a homey mobile living space? A luxurious RV home that would earn them both comfort and closeness to nature?

And that’s exactly what he did!

Collier went to work right away, mapping out a plan to convert the bus into a suitable living space.

He did not believe that the project should have to be costly and set himself a budget. He was determined to prove that a luxurious space was within the reach of anyone who wanted it. He gave himself a budget of £10,000 ($11,690) to pursue the overhaul of the bus.

The bus itself was in good working condition, but his primary focus would be on the interior, which he would have to completely rework to modify into a living space. The bus was used to holding many occupants, but only for transportation. If Collier wanted to live inside of it, he understood his work was cut out for him.

His first task was to gut the bus, ripping out the 42 bench seats welded to the floor.

During this, he also observed that the bus didn’t have any insulation behind the paneling. So he went to work, stuffing insulation everywhere that he could before assembling beams to reinforce the structure of his new bus-home.

Collier was used to working solo and undertook the project completely on his own. He knew how he wanted the project to be executed, and the only way was to do it himself. He confessed in an interview with Amazing Spaces:

“I’m a tradesman as well, so I knew how to do everything, and there was no point in asking anyone else to help. Also, it was my project. I couldn’t expect others to share my level of enthusiasm.”

That’s not to say challenges didn’t present themselves along the way. Collier was constantly defining the layout of the interior while sourcing the best and most affordable materials for the project. But nothing stopped him. He diligently worked on the bus until the jaw-dropping transformation was complete.

And what a sight to behold!

Where he gutted out the old seating, he made a lively dining room. He was also able to create a fully functional kitchen. The bus was also home to a chic resting nook with plenty of window space for sunlight. Throughout the bus, he weaved in personal details – beautiful splashes of colors and plants to truly make the space a home.

And naturally, he didn’t forget a sleeping space. In fact, he was able to create three bedrooms to sleep six people total! This bus is truly a masterpiece to behold.

By the end of the project, Collier had gone over budget but had still spent way less than the cost of a newly purchased home. For half the price, and triple the luxury, he successfully turned his dream into a mobile reality.
