Cheerleaders perform illusion dance and turn into "human kaleidoscope"

Drill teams are pretty similar to cheerleaders — they perform in between games in attempt to raise spirits and show support, but they do it a little bit differently.

While cheerleaders often times use props like pom-poms and do a ton of flips, jumps, and flies, drill teams tend to stay more on the ground and use their bodies. But that does not make it any less fascinating, entertaining and impressive.

The Mercer Island High School drill team performed at their Homecoming Assembly and won not only the crowd over, but everyone on the Internet when a video of the performance was uploaded to YouTube in 2010. Their skills were clearly so impressive — and still are, ten years later — it is a hard video to ignore!

While this performance was a decade ago now, it is still gaining a ton of traction and holding a special place in people’s hearts today.

The Washington State high school team performed to a handful of songs like “Power” by Kanye West, an upbeat techno track, “4ever” by The Veronicas, and “Hey Baby” by Pitbull featuring T-Pain. They were all appropriate musical choices that allowed them to show off their skills — they were rhythmic and almost robotic, which really made it so that they can move to the beat.

There weren’t any insane flips or jumps, but the drill team managed to impress in so many other ways. First of all, all of the members were so synchronized with each other.

There are over 20 members on the team, so it is pretty crazy that many people were able to sync up with each other so perfectly.

When they first entered the court, they seemed pretty humble. They casually stood around as the crowd wondered what was about to happen… And then they broke into their explosive routine.

They marched in place together, not a foot out of beat… And then it really started.

They started out standing in a star-like shape before fanning out and all marching to different corners of the court.

Then, row by row, they each slide into a full split on the ground. They made it look so effortless, it almost catches you off guard at first!

While they are on the ground, they whip out some awesome moves there too. They’re laying in three separate rows and each row moves one at a time, which almost creates a gorgeous kaleidoscope effect. Even subtle moves like picking their knees up or raising their arms looks so cool when so many people are doing it at the same time.

There’s one move where they slide all over the floor, pulling one knee at a time. Again, it looks like a move that would be painful to the average person but they make it look so natural and effortless. True talent and skill!

As soon as they broke out these jaw-dropping moves, the crowd’s spirit was definitely lifted. They were so impressed and honestly, we can’t blame ’em! These moves are magic.
