Man is allergic to cats but saves a stray and lets it nap on him the whole way home

When a truck driver named Matt saw something crawling across the road, he couldn’t simply drive by. The good samaritan pulled over to check it out instead.

Posting his story to Reddit three years ago, the photos of his surprise rescue have been shared tens of thousands of times at least. That’s partly because they’re so adorable and his gesture so sweet and selfless.

Despite the fact that Matt is highly allergic to cats, he couldn’t abandon the tiny calico kitten he discovered on the road. Unsure of what else to do, he put aside his personal comfort (and sinuses) and scooped the little cat up and put her in his truck.

Matt assumed that since no other cats were around and the area was surrounded by woods, she had lost track of her mother.

He said in his Reddit post:

“She was crawling in the street in an area only surrounded by woods so she was either born there and the mother didn’t get to transfer the whole litter or someone just dumped her.”

The kitten had clearly had a stressful day, so when she was safe within the confines of Matt’s truck, she was all too happy to crawl on him and show some affection before falling asleep on his center console.

Matt even took it upon himself to take her to the vet the next day instead of just calling animal control to come pick her up. He explained;

“I found this little lady in the middle of a busy street so I stopped to pick her up. Took her to the vet the next day to get rid of all of the fleas and as soon as I did, she instantly fell asleep in the truck.”

But first, he did something that made his post go viral.

Despite being allergic to the kitten, he found her so adorable that he couldn’t bear the thought of waking her up when she fell asleep in his truck on the ride home. He simply sat with her in silence and let her sleep off her stressful experience.

“I didn’t have the heart to wake her up when I got home so I just sat there quietly with the radio off for about an hour until she woke up.”

As she slept, he was surprised at just how loud her little snoring was.

“I found a stray that snores as loud as a train!” he exclaimed.

While Matt made a fast friend, he knew there was no way he could keep the kitten because of his allergies. So he set about finding her a home himself, making sure she got a good one – he even interviewed families!

“I’m stupid allergic so I had to find her a home. I actually interviewed two people who wanted her and told the first person no because the living situation didn’t sound like it would be good for her.”

Luckily, Matt quickly found the kitten a good family and in the comments, he told concerned readers she was off to live with a nice person and a new sibling:

“I found her a home with a nice lady who has an older rescue cat.”

According to PETA, there are roughly 60-100 MILLION strays cats in the U.S. alone. Many don’t get the chance at a better life that this one did.

If you’re interested in reducing those numbers, the best thing you can do is spay and neuter your pets.
