Dump truck driver saves tiny puppy after spotting moving backpack on roadside
The day of a garbage collector starts early. While most people are just getting out of bed, garbage men are busy collecting the trash in cities and towns around the U.S.
With long hours and often dangerous work, the life of a garbage man can seem pretty thankless at times.
Even so, things can happen during a typical day of collecting trash that can make the job all worthwhile. For one garbage collector, it was the opportunity to save a life and gain a lifelong companion in the process.
A typical day on the job
Adam Kinsel works for Rumpke Waste & Recycling in Colerain Township on the outskirts of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Kinsel is used to the daily routine of going up and down the same streets to collect the trash every day. In fact, he probably knows the area better than a lot of people.
Something caught Kinsel’s eye
So, when he saw an abandoned backpack along his normal route, he knew something was up.
What caught his attention was the fact that the backpack was moving around on its own. Rumpke Waste & Recycling was quick to share the story on the company’s Facebook.
“Rumpke Driver Aaron Kinsel was servicing customers when he noticed a discarded backpack along the roadway. After additional observation, he noticed the bag was moving, so he got out of the truck to investigate. Inside the bag he found a distraught 10-week-old puppy,” a company spokesperson said in the Facebook post.
Getting a new chance at life
A boxer mix, the female puppy had been born a mere few months ago. Thanks to the quick thinking Kinsel, she would get a new chance at life.
“I felt like I was meant to find her,” Kinsel told People.
When he found her, the puppy was in bad shape. She had a broken leg and was extremely dehydrated.
Thanks to Kinsel’s intervention, the puppy quickly found herself at a local vet’s office where she was treated for her injuries and could begin the recovery process.
All that was needed for her was a new home.
Kinsel steps up to the plate again
That’s where Kinsel stepped in to save the day once again.
Ever since he had saved her from her fate, Kinsel could not get the puppy out of his mind. It was then that Kinsel and his family made a decision.
Kinsel and his family volunteered to give the dog, who they named Tipper, a new home.
Rumpke Waste & Recycling even offered to pay for all of her treatments at the vets.
Rumpke Waste & Recycling show their support for Kinsel’s actions
“We do our best to take care of our communities and always do the right thing. We are very proud of Aaron and delighted to make Tipper an honorary member of our Rumpke team,” the company said in a show of support on its Facebook.
As for Tipper, she is very fortunate to have Kinsel come into her life. Not only did he end up saving her, but he also gave her a forever home.
