Compassionate teens reach out to pray with crying woman at drive-thru window
A group of employees working at a Dutch Bros in Vancouver have been going viral on the internet for all the right reasons.
One morning at work, amid all the business of their daily routine of serving people who wants their coffee early int he morning, these guys noticed that the drive-thru customer they were serving was visibly upset about something. They recognized her as a regular and someone who’s not usually stressed like this. Instead of just letting her go away, the caring teens asked what’s wrong and even gave her free coffee to the woman who’s in tears.
As it turns out, the woman is distraught because she just lost her husband the night before. He was only 37 years old. She was trying to get some sense of normalcy after the crazy and tragic evening she went through so she went and bought herself a cup of coffee.
After hearing her story, Pierce Dunn, 19 years old, informed his co-workers of the woman’s situation and together, they went and asked if they could pray together with the widow.
She agreed and so, the boys stopped everything they were doing, leaned out to the drive-thru window and reach for her hand so they could pray together.
Unknown to them, the drive-thru customer next in line was moved by their act of kindness and snapped a photo of the heartwarming moment. Barbara Danner later uploaded the photo on her Facebook account and posted:
“Snapped this picture while waiting in line at the Dutch Bros on 138th Avenue today. Turns out the young lady in line ahead of us lost her 37-year-old husband last night. When the DB guys & gals noticed she was falling apart, they stopped everything and prayed with her for several minutes, invited her to come back for prayer and support, as well as anything else that she might need. Prayers for the young family, and you know where to stop for coffee!”
The post went viral, earning more than 400,000 reactions and more than 140,000 shares. Truly, their act of kindness is something that people found inspiring and worth sharing.
Dunn, a Christian, prayed that the woman would feel loved and supported, and that God would give her peace as the family mourns the death of their loved one. Evan Freeman, 21 years old and one of the employees who were there, also prayed with them although he doesn’t exactly identify himself as a religious person.
“She could have said she wanted an apple, and I would have gone and planted a tree and grown her an apple. It just happened to be religion that she wanted,” Freeman shared in an interview with Fox 12 Oregon.
The news reached their manager, Jessica Chudek, leaving her very proud of her employees.
“I started studying a little more and I was like, ‘wait, that’s Evan and Pierce and that’s my stand, those are my kids!’ and it just brought me to tears right then,” Jessica shared in the same interview.
Truly, these young men showed us all that compassion and genuine care can go a long way. It may be a simple and short prayer, but it definitely impacted the woman’s life in a good way.
And because of their act of kindness, these boys even inspired a lot of people online to do the same for others, when they have a chance.
We definitely need more people like these caring employees and this is what Pierce Dunn has to say to inspire people to do more things like this:
“If every single person did an act of kindness or had a smile on their face every single day, the world would be a completely different place.”
