Toss drumsticks in a slow cooker for fall-off-the-bone, mouth-watering wings
Wings are a favorite food at parties, game days, and barbecues. Thereâs nothing quite like enjoying a messy, crispy chicken wing smothered in sauce. But wings can be a bit of a hassle to make. Or at least they were until now because we have slow cookers.
Almost every home has a slow cooker these days. Who can blame people for keeping this kitchen appliance around? Slow cookers are super easy to use. You can put almost anything in them, walk away, and come back to finished dinner.
Now you can make them at home with a recipe from Cooktop Cove.
It was only a matter of time before someone came up with a recipe for getting the same flavor in a slow cooker. The recipe swaps wings for drumsticks.
âThere’s nothing quite like the tangy awesomeness of buffalo chicken wings,â says the author. âYou can get the same mouthwatering flavor using chicken drumsticks in the slow cooker.â
Sure, we were with her for the first sentence. But is it really possible to get deliciously crispy buffalo chicken wings with so little effort?
âWhen done right, these tasty drumsticks are juicy in the middle, crispy on the outside and fall right off the bone,â she says.
âWith this slow cooker recipe, youâre never going to rely on takeout for your favorite game-day, barbecue or finger food again. This slow cooker drumstick recipe is everything youâve ever wanted and more, and it takes almost no effort.â
Those are some big claims. So, letâs hope she puts her money where her mouth is â literally. The recipe is pretty simple, in the classic style of slow cooker meals. Except for the chicken wings themselves, you probably have most of the necessary ingredients in your pantry or fridge.
Here are the ingredients:
1.5 tablespoons cornstarch
3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 cup hot sauce (whatever kind you prefer)
3 tablespoons honey
4 cloves minced garlic
5 tablespoons butter, diced
3 pounds chicken drumsticks
1.5 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
Start by whisking the cornstarch and vinegar together in a bowl until the mixture is smooth and without lumps. Add the mixture to the slow cooker and combine it with the other sauce ingredients. Then add the chicken drumsticks and mix to coat them evenly in the sauce.
Then your work is pretty much done. Thatâs the great thing about slow cookers. Once everything is in the pot, you get to walk away.
Cook the chicken wings on the high setting for three hours. You might want to occasionally stir to make sure every part remains evenly coated. Theyâre done when they look crisp and juicy. If you have a kitchen thermometer, you can insert it into a wing to make sure the chicken is done. When fully cooked, the chicken should register at 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
Of course, part of the fun of chicken wings is choosing different kinds of sauce, like blue cheese or ranch.
But if youâre a purist, these wings are delicious all on their own. Grab some napkins and invite friends over…or keep them all for yourself.
