Make this simple DIY cat tent using just a few household items
Now is probably the best time to try experimenting with some of those DIY projects that have been in the back of your mind. We normally wouldn’t have the time or energy to take on random projects around the house but with the world on lockdown, our boredom is forcing us to get a little more creative.
So if you are a proud cat owner who is looking for something to do, we have the perfect project for you.
Building a cat tent sounds like hard work, but it is surprisingly simple and the final result is so worth it. After all, don’t you want to see your cat all cozy and happy in his or her own space?
If you have finished watching all of the movies, you have already given yourself bangs, and you have already cooked a ton of sourdough bread, we get it. You are probably starting to run out of ideas. That’s why building a cat tent can be the next fun thing!
If that sounds like the perfect next step for you, then follow along with these instructions and learn how to make this cat tent which only requires simple items you probably already have in your house. We promise you, it is so easy!
Here is what you will need:
- A medium-sized t-shirt (use a larger shirt if you want a larger tent)
- Two wire hangers
- A 15 × 15 inch piece of cardboard (or larger)
- Wire cutters
- Safety pins
- Masking or painter’s tape
Instructions:
- First, cut the hangers where they meet to form the hook.
- Then bend them into a U-shape. It should reach diagonally across the cardboard.
- Next, tape the creases in order to reinforce the cardboard.
- Poke holes in each corner. Put the end of the hangers into each hole so that they can cross over the middle of the cardboard.
- Tape the hangers together where they cross.
- Then bend the hangers under in the corners and tape it down.
- Once the whole structure is built, pull the whole thing into the shirt. The neck hole of the shirt should create an entrance on one side.
- Flip the tent over. Pull the bottom and the sleeves tight.
- Then safety pin the sleeves to the rest of the shirt so that they are out of the way and secure.
And voila! That is it! How easy?
All you need is just a few basic things, most of which you probably already have lying around the house. So why not put them to good use and make something super special for your beloved kitten?
They will absolutely love this! Because not only is it snuggly and cozy, but it is also a great way to give them their own space when they want to be alone. And we all know that cats love being alone.
