This non-toxic DIY 'Weed-Be-Gone' spray works better than anything you can buy at the store
People are doing a ton of gardening right now! With all the free time many have with the stay-at-home orders, some are discovering their green thumbs they never knew they had. Part of the process of gardening is taking care of pesky weeds. This DIY weedkiller may be your next project!
Many storebought weedkillers can have chemicals in them that are harmful to humans.
Many name-brand weedkillers have seriously harmful additives and chemicals that humans should stay far away from. How are we to have pristine flower boxes, fresh veggies, and herbs if we shouldn’t spray the “bad stuff”? Well, you can make your own!
This natural weed killer is made from ingredients that you have right in your home!
If you want to have a beautiful and bountiful gardening experience without the danger of chemicals, follow this simple and easy guide on making your own weedkiller.
Ingredients:
The ingredient list is quite short, and you probably already have all of them!
- 1-gallon white vinegar
- 1/4 cup of dish soap
- 2 cups Epsom salt
- gallon-sized container to put it all in
- spray bottle
The total cost of making this is less than $10 of you don’t have a single one of these household items. If you do, the cost only goes down from there.
The great part is that this is safe to spray around the home.
You can spray this product wherever you need to. You don’t have to worry about it harming your water supply or setting toxins in your soil, either.
Directions:
The steps are super easy to follow.
- Pour the Epsom salt into your large container and add the vinegar.
- Shake or stir until thoroughly combined (if you are having trouble getting it to dissolve, just let it sit since vinegar is a mild acid)
- Add your dish soap and stir it together.
- Using a funnel, distribute your product into bottles (or just put a lid on the one you made it in!)
- Enjoy!
It is super easy to use, as well.
This is a great solution that can kill most weeds you would encounter in a home garden. Simply spray the weeds and wait about 24 hours. The salt and vinegar need time to work on the root system, but after a day, you should see results. For large weeds, it may take a couple of rounds of spraying just to soak the entire plant.
Be careful not to spray your good plants!
Since this works by attacking the root and stopping the soil from being fertile, this is an excellent method for any plant you don’t want. The salt pulls out water from the plant and makes it so it won’t grow back. Just be careful not to spray your grass or other “good” plants you want to keep! It works on those, too!
You can often make your own versions of storebought items.
Don’t get stuck in the idea that you always need to buy a solution! Often, we can make our own, and it’s cheaper and safer!
