Ed Sheeran nails chilling cover of one of Elvis’s most beloved hits
Some could argue that Ed Sheeran is the king of love songs. I mean, you know his singles, “Perfect,” “Thinking Out Loud,” and “Shape Of You”? They all happen to be the most played songs at weddings, and it is easy to see why.
All of his songs are filled with so much love, and they are always admiring his lucky lady. There is nothing better to listen to if you are in love!
Another master of love songs is Elvis Presley. He released “Can’t Help Falling In Love” and it insantly became one of the most romantic love songs of all time.
With lyrics like, “Wise men say only fools rush in / But I can’t help falling in love with you / Oh, shall I stay, would it be a sin / Oh, if I can’t help falling in love with you?” It is impossible to say it is not the most heartwarming song ever!
Funny enough, today’s modern day romantic — Ed Sheeran — decided to put his own spin on Presley’s classic and, to no one’s surprise, it turned out to be absolutely breathtaking.
The performance was a part of the Elvis Presley All Star Tribute which took place last year.
It makes even more sense that Sheeran would put his own spin on the song, as Sheeran’s musical style is pretty bare-bones and acoustic. He typically performs with just his own voice and a guitar and since “Can’t Help Falling In Love” is already a stripped-back song, it really fits the mood and style.
Sheeran decided to enlist some back-up singers for the performance, which turned it into something extra special (as if it was not special already!).
A precious performance.
The English pop star took his time delivering each lyric. The emotion he felt was filled with passion and authenticity and it was clear the choir that was backing him up was very happy to be there, too. They all had smiles on their face and it almost felt like they were all falling in love at the exact same time.
It is so impressive to watch Sheeran carry the soft rendition with pretty much nothing but an acoustic guitar. Just goes to show that you don’t need a ton of money or gear to make something good. All you need is passion and talent!
The performance was super popular, of course. It currently has almost 7 millions views on YouTube as well as hundreds of thousands of likes and comments.
A lot of people shared their love for Sheeran’s unique rendition, saying that it helped with trouble in their family and also made them feel at peace in general.
One person wrote:
“I played this to my grandma who has kidney failures and she might only have 4 days to live… it put her to sleep and this morning she told me to play it again. And this time I saw tears running down her cheeks…she told me to tell Ed that his voice is like of an angel, which is very true.”
Is that not the most heartwarming thing ever?!
