This story will make you believe in true love and will also make you cry.
We are not talking about a fictional story here, but it all started many years ago. It was 1960, and Dennis Vinar was a heartthrob at Brownton, Minnesota High School.
He was good-looking, and he excelled at sports. No wonder many girls liked him, but he only had his eyes on one shy girl, Karen Lehmann.
Karen was a clarinet player, and her charm captivated the football cutie.
“She was very special,” said Dennis in his interview with WUSA9. “I was always late for football practice because I was walking Karen home. That was much more important, I thought.”
They were young and deeply in love with each other.
However, Karen’s father was not happy with her daughter’s love story. He didn’t like Dennis for his daughter. He didn’t want them dating each other but what happened next shocked everyone.
Karen Lehmann, at the tender age of 15, got pregnant.
Dennis was very willing to take responsibility for their child, but Karen’s father didn’t allow this to happen. Karen’s father wanted her daughter’s future to be secured. After all, she was at the top of her class, and he wanted her to go to college.
So instead of allowing them to get married, he took Karen to a home for unwed mothers.
There, Karen gave birth to a beautiful, healthy girl.
Dennis tried his best so they would end up together. He proposed to her, but again, Karen’s father made sure that they would never see each other again.
Their daughter was immediately adopted.
Dennis and his family decided to move away, Karen on the other hand, finished school and left for college. Dennis was still head-over-heels in love with Karen. He tried his best to write her letters, even trying to make long-distance calls just to reach her.
“I went through hell to be with her,” Dennis recalled. “And I couldn’t.”
Years went by, both Dennis and Karen accepted the fact that they were not meant to be. They moved on, got married, had children, and for 5 decades, they lived different lives.
No calls, no messages.
Until one day, four years ago, Dennis received an invite for LinkedIn. He signed up, and while browsing, he remembered something.
“I typed in ‘Karen Lehmann’ and there she was—the third person down,” said Dennis smiling. “And I smacked my hands together and said, ‘That’s my lady!’”
In a twist of faith, Dennis found his one true love after 50 years.
He called her the very next day. His heart was racing when he finally heard her voice. It was her! It was Karen Lehmann!
For three months, they would talk on the phone and catch up. Karen was already a widow, and Dennis had been long divorced.
They were both single.
Dennis wouldn’t let this chance slip again. He proposed to her, and they got married just a few days after they met again.
Finally, they were able to tie the knot and be together.
However, there is still a huge piece that was missing – the little girl that they have given up. Dennis was able to convince Karen to look for their missing daughter.
They wrote to the adoption agency, and soon, they got a name. Jean Voxland’s phone rang. She answered the call, and for a moment, she wasn’t able to talk.
After 50 long years, her parents found her, and they were complete.
Jean accepted her parents and welcomed them into her life. She felt complete – they all did. Their story went viral, and they were featured on the Steve TV Show.
True love can surpass any trial, and when it’s true, it will find a way. Now, Dennis, Karen, and Jean are finally together as a family.
