We all know how life as a son or daughter works: we grow up being looked after and loved by our parents, only to return the favor when we become adults.

Many of us would do anything for our parents, and most of this comes down to wanting them to live the last remaining decades of their lives in comfort and happiness. While we don’t all have the means to buy our moms and dads the sorts of gifts we think they’re deserved of, we can show them how much they mean to us in our own way.

One man who went above and beyond for his elderly parents, Bonnie and George, is Schon Miller. Miller had noticed, as we all do eventually, that his parents were beginning to struggle in their current living situation. He said:

“We knew they were leaning on each other with one good body and one good mind.”

In Bonnie and George’s case, Bonnie had to use a wheelchair and George was no longer as sharp as he was when younger.

Miller knew that he could arrange for them to move into a care home – something he wasn’t keen to do, given how hit or miss some of them can be – or take things into his own hands.

He chose option two.

He started looking for a home to share with his mom and dad. But there was nothing that seemed quite right on the market. So Miller and his wife decided to refurbish the basement rec room in their current home instead.

It took a lot of work, and it wasn’t always easy, but the video of Miller’s parents’ reactions make the job more than worth it in the end.

In the video, which was recorded by Miller and shared to YouTube for the world to “aww!” at, Miller can be seen wheeling his mom into the new “granny pad” while his dad follows close behind.

It’s an emotional moment, as Bonnie immediately breaks down in tears, saying,

“It’s so beautiful! Look at everything!”

And George agrees,

“Yes, indeed.”

Bonnie is absolutely blown away by the new home her son has provided for her. She can’t stop exclaiming about all of the features of the space, and she sobs,

“Oh, you guys. We love you.”

There’s no denying that Miller has done a fantastic job on his parents’ “granny pad”. There is a glass-panelled front door to let the light in, an open, spacious kitchen, and more comfy chairs and couches than Bonnie and George could possibly need.

The whole apartment is wheelchair-friendly, with extra-wide door frames for fitting through without a fuss, an easy-access shower, and bars on the wall to grip onto by the toilet. Even the toilet seat is higher, making it easier for an 87-year-old to get up from the seat.

While the apartment is cozy, small and welcoming, it’s also completely functional. And the best part for both Miller and his parents is that he’s just upstairs if his mom or dad ever need anything.

We think Miller has done an amazing thing for his elderly parents, and we can tell by this video just how incredibly thankful they are for his support. You can scroll down to watch Bonnie’s emotional reaction below.
