Single mom breastfeeding baby is stunned by senior’s act of kindness in restaurant
Parenthood, everyone’s favorite nightmare. Well, not entirely. Being a parent can be one of the most joyful times in life. But it is also accompanied by sleep deprivation, craziness, and a total upheaval of life. Here, parents experience a rollercoaster of emotion.
If you haven’t learned how to multi-task before you become a parent, you might want to figure out as quickly as possible. You must be able to do things while paying attention to your children at all times!
Reading to a wriggly toddler while entertaining a baby? No big deal. Fixing dinner while singing lullabies and rocking the bouncy chair with one foot? Got it covered.
Eating while nursing a baby is always challenging. A young infant doesn’t really care about what’s going on, just that they want food and that they want it now! So put all of your stuff aside mom!
Many moms have shared hilarious stories about dropping food on the baby’s head while they are eating. That makes for even more mess, but it’s something that mother’s come to deal with. They gain experience and confidence as time goes on. It’s just a part of motherhood.
Well, this is where we find Briar Lusia McQueen from New Zealand. She had worked up the courage to head out alone with her newborn Jaxon.
Jaxon being only eight-weeks old didn’t really have much say in the matter, but was excited as ever to accompany mom to breakfast.
Mom, ecstatic that her plan was working, ordered her breakfast and some hot chocolate as she admired her cute baby boy.
But right as her food arrived, Jaxon started to cry. Being the loving mother that she is, Briar put Jaxon in his nursing position and began feeding him, and left her food sitting cold.
Pretty soon, an elderly woman approached the table and looked like she had something to say. Briar was worried that she was going to say something about nursing in public.
But the woman’s kind gesture brought tears to the new mother’s eyes.
“…she starts cutting up my breakfast for me and said, ‘What a good mama you are. We can’t have your food getting cold can we?’”
Briar commented on what she felt in that moment:
“I honestly could have cried. Loveliest lady EVER!”
Briar hopped on Facebook soon after the incident and posted her story for mothers everywhere to read. Many people including moms, dads, and grandparents commented on helping new mothers feel comfortable about breastfeeding.
A woman named Robyn Murdoch commented that she knows what it’s like to be feeding a child and have hot food go cold in an instant.
“I’m old fashioned in that sense that if I saw another mumma out grabbing a feed and was summoned to feed bub, I would offer a hand with her food, too.”
Another mother blamed our current society for the uncomfortable feelings Briar was having about breastfeeding in public.
“Our society has gotten so lost in what is right and what is wrong. Breastfeeding is right! Shunning someone for feeding their child in the most natural way is wrong. I am so glad this sweet lady helped you!”
A grandfather named Peter Garret Martin commended the new mother for nursing her baby, saying:
“…it is the most natural thing to do when a bub is hungry. Enjoy the time together and lots of happiness.”
Briar was blessed by this elderly woman’s act of kindness and it isn’t surprising to see why. These small acts can really impact people’s lives. It is quite impactful to think about these things when you are going through your busy day. Think about how you could change someone’s life forever. This elderly woman did, and she’s impacted thousands of people across the globe with her story.
