These 4 women startled BGT judges with funky instruments and epic – but traditional – talent
We love a good Britain’s Got Talent audition. And the show is so great at making us fall in love with contestants before they even reach the stage.
The 4 best friends from the group called Scala who auditioned in 2008 were no different.
First, it’s the cringe-y comment they endure from the co-hosts that put on on their side. Yep, they’re wearing fitted above-the-knee-dresses. Big deal. As four lovely entertainers about to go out on stage, the fact that attention is called to their appearance is just…well, so tiresome.
Let’s get over it, shall we? Everything is covered that needs to be. They probably don’t want to be hit on at this moment from two guys trying to get a rise of out their audience.
More importantly, we find out they’re an electric string quartet – how cool is that?
These women have been working to become professional musicians their whole lives and are so talented that millions of people will now see just how much talent they have.
It turns out they met when they were all part of a large orchestra and became best friends.
And we’ve seen plenty of orchestras – they don’t always have a lot of young women in them!
Hours of practice for years – how many of us can say we’ve put the same effort into a skill at that level? They’ve already won our admiration for their hard work.
But how well can they play under the hot lights of the BGT stage?
We get our first glimpse of their amazing electric violins, viola, and cello as they walk out on stage. And they are SO cool!
Of course, it’s all undermined by the fact that the show plays Ernie Doe’s “Here Come The Girls” as they walk out, despite the fact that they are full-grown professional women.
Simon stares.
The audience is genuinely laughing at them as Simon turns around (possibly to egg them on). We’re embarrassed for anyone who can’t handle 4 women on stage without thinking of them as objects.
Then we get a close-up of a man looking positively lecherous.
Keeping dreaming, pal.
Isn’t this a talent show?
Let’s not expect every woman to walk out in a muumuu, please.
We won’t even tell you what people call them in the comments because it’s just so disappointing that 4 young women can’t be judged on talent before appearance – AT A TALENT SHOW.
Most importantly, these women rock the stage with their performance.
They’re passionate, wonderfully gifted, and have stage both presence and confidence. And they have people listening to classical music who might normally listen.
And while it’s nearly impossible to move around much while you’re playing music at that level of difficulty, they also manage to throw in a few moves, much to the delight of their audience.
This talented string quartet earns every moment of their standing ovation AND the kudos they get from the judges.
Everyone is blown away by their masterful performance.
While the group did move on they didn’t win that year, but they did continue playing together.
They’re now known as Escala and have been signed to both Sony and Simon Cowell’s Syco Records, though some members have left and others have been added.
