Electrician fixed couple's heat free-of-charge – then they trick him into coming back for fake inspection
The Lemond family believes in the power of prayer. They trust that reaching out to God in times of hardship helps them to deal with whatever life throws at them. They have a story to back this up – and it all starts with faulty electricity.
When the issue arose, Stacy and Josh Lemonds realised that they had no way of financing the repairs needed to keep their home warm in the middle of the winter.
So they turned to what they knew best: prayer. They went the extra mile, asking for their church’s marriage group to support them in praying for them. And then, their prayers were answered by an electrician apprentice, Joshua Matthews.
The Lemonds had already met Joshua several weeks before, after delivering some food to his home when his wife was sick. They never thought anything of it, until Joshua got back in contact.
Speaking to Oklahoma News 4, Stacy said: “He chimed in with a text, he told us, ‘Hey, do you know I’m an electrician, and I live only about ten minutes away.’”
Joshua paid a visit to their house to figure out the issue. He discovered that the electric company had to pull their meter because it was a fire hazard. Numerous wires had corroded, and the whole thing would need to be either replaced, repaired or inspected.
The Lemonds continued to receive kindness and good fortune from their prayers. Their church group paid for them to sleep at a hotel while Joshua got busy fixing the electrical issues, supported by his colleagues at Dane Electric.
The whole job took several nights, and the weather conditions weren’t kind to Joshua and his peers. They worked in wind and rain late into the night, sometimes even staying beyond midnight.
Stacy spoke of her appreciation for her helper, saying: “He’s just an amazing friend and a servant of God, he’s really a servant.”
As it turns out, Joshua is a hero in many different ways. He took part in two tours in Afghanistan as a member of the 45th Infantry Division.
The Lemonds were desperate to repay him for his kind act, so they decided to share their story with the media. From there, a scheme was devised to help the Lemonds to reimburse Joshua financially.
“It’s been humbling,” Stacy said, “but it’s also been an amazing experience to see people love – just love because they love, and just give. And thankfully, today I get to give back a little bit, and that’s just amazing to me that I can pay it forward.”
They knew it wouldn’t be easier to get Joshua back to the Lemonds’ house, as he was determined to help the couple for free. So Stacy spoke to Dane Electric, who told Joshua he was needed for a re-inspection.
That was when Stacy revealed her surprise, saying: “I have something for you. Thank you so much for taking care of our electric. We appreciate you, so we have $400 to Pay It 4Ward for you.”
She handed Joshua a $400 Pay It 4Ward award from First Fidelity Bank. He was pretty shocked, as he believed he was simply doing his job. He said:
“I had no idea what was going on! It’s just what anyone should do.”
The Lemonds are now enjoying better lighting than they’ve ever had, all thanks to the power of prayer. The world certainly needs more selfless men like Joshua! Take a look at the video below for the full story.
