It all started when a tour group went to Sabi Sands Reserve in South Africa. The people were keen to see animals in their native habitat, when a family of elephants started walking by. But one elephant calf was a complete show-off.

He started walking down a track to the tour group. As he did so, he started moving back and forth and shaking his trunk around. It was like he was dancing to a jazz song!

Just then, the elephant’s mother walked onto the track, and the elephant behaved.

But once the mother’s back was turned, he started dancing again. Only this time, he was much closer to the tour group.

Then the elephant started raising his trunk to the humans, clearly wanting a treat for performing. When no one gave the elephant a treat, he started dancing backward, eventually rejoining his family.

Lastly, the elephant started kicking around a rock, deciding that that would be fun for a while.

Luckily, one of the tourists was filming the entire thing. They uploaded the footage to YouTube. And they were shocked when it went viral. To date, over 1.2 million people have watched this amazing video. It also has more than 13,000 likes.

It’s pretty amazing that baby elephants can move like the one in this video. Even though they’re babies, they aren’t exactly small animals!

In fact, at birth, baby elephants weigh around 250 pounds. They also grow rapidly, thanks to the fact that they drink around three gallons of milk every day.

And baby elephants love to drink milk throughout most of their childhoods. In fact, they can keep on drinking their mothers’ milk for the first 10 years of their lives.

The baby elephant in this video may have been only just learning to use its trunk. When baby elephants are first born, they don’t know how to use their trunks appropriately.

So they flail them about, step on them and suck them like babies sucking their thumbs. But at around six to eight months, baby elephants begin to use their trunks for more practical purposes. The baby in this video flails their trunk, but they also use it to examine a tree, suggesting it’s just getting the hang of using the trunk.

If the baby elephant in that video is female, then she will stay with her herd for the rest of her life. But if the baby is male, then he will only stay for around 12 to 14 years before leaving the herd for a solitary life.

The elephant in this video is a very curious animal, coming right up to the humans. So even if they never leave the herd, they will still be sure to explore at any opportunity!
