Giant herd of elephants shuts down traffic in Thailand
Most of us experience different traffic problems on our daily commutes to work. Someone might cut you off, you might get all of the red lights, or worse, you get stuck behind a train. Other than the occasional deer by the side of the highway, animals rarely play a role in our work commutes in the United States.
But, in other countries, it isn’t quite that simple. A recent traffic hold-up in Thailand had people flocking to the scene, taking pictures, and calling their friends. These are the kinds of things that you just don’t see in our society.
This road was shut down by the Thailand Police to make way for a huge herd of 50 elephants that were trying to cross the road.
I mean what can you even do with all of the elephants crossing the road? Nobody is really going to stop them, so the police decided to shut the road down completely. People were quick to get to the scene and begin snapping pictures.
Jungle rangers had been carefully monitoring the herd’s trek through the jungles for a while.
When they knew for sure that the herd was going to try and cross the road, they contacted authorities. The police then closed the road so that the elephants wouldn’t be disturbed while they crossed. This was first reported by The Sun.
We’re glad to see that the animals were cared for and that the road was closed. Sometimes these things can be neglected by authorities in favor of the efficiency of roads and other things. These police officers did the right thing!
The elephants were calm as they crossed, and the people watching seemed to be in shock about what they were witnessing.
“Nobody minds waiting for the elephants, as the most important thing is that they’re safe,” noted Pratya Chutipat Sakul, who was lucky enough to film the experience.
“The elephants were all so calm and barely noticed the humans. I feel very lucky to have seen such an amazing sight.”
Don’t be surprised if we start seeing more and more of these instances with elephants and animals crossing various areas. Nature seems to be coming back to life after we as humans have quarantined everything off.
It’s cool to see a positive effect from all of the chaos going on in the world
We loved the impromptu elephant parade. What an incredible, majestic sight!
