Dogs tend to be very protective of their owners and families, especially when it comes to young children.

As pack animals, dogs tend to look out for anyone they consider a part of their pack.

One video demonstrates this perfectly as a large dog stands guard over the children in his family at the bus stop.

A dog’s loyalty to his family

The video was recorded when the owner of the dog decided to film the dog and his charges as they waited at the nearby bus stop for the school bus.

The images from the video have shown everyone who has seen it just how much the youngest members of his family mean to the dog.

School buses are built for safety

Riding the school bus is a rite of passage for many school children across the U.S.

Fortunately, while parents can’t always be there to protect their children, school buses are some of the safest vehicles on the roadways, according to the NHTSA.

What makes them safer? Dogs!

In many cases, parents will walk their young kids to the bus stop to try and make sure everything goes smoothly.

It seems in the case with the protective dog that he has taken on this responsibility, sitting out at the end of the driveway as they all wait for the bus to get there.

The protective dog patiently waits

In the video clip, the large dog is seen sitting and waiting patiently, waiting for the large vehicle to get there and whisk off the children to school.

He also seems to be there to make sure nothing happens to the children he loves so much.

The dog is only following his instincts

Though, it is only a part of a dog’s instinct to protect his or her family. According to Scottsdale Pet Hotel, canines are naturally protective of pack members.

When it comes to children, this protectiveness is an ingrained part of ta dog’s nature stemming from their ancestral connection to wolves.

Many are the stories of dogs following young children into the wild to ensure that they are protected.

And while the dog in the video simply sits there with a watchful eye, it shows just how loyal and protective a dog can be.

The dog stays until his job is done

As the school bus arrives, the kids slowly start to get on. For his part, the dog continues to sit and watch, not moving until the door of the bus closes.

Then he is off, his job done, at least until the next time.

The video ends with the dog running quickly back to his house, his morning’s work complete.

This in itself shows that he was truly watching out for the children and only has their best interest in mind.
