Cat owners unite!

For anyone who owns a cat, you probably know just how sassy and independent they can be. Fiercely so, at times. However, they’ve got their own feline way of showing love and affection. And they know just how to charm us at the perfect time. Truth is, when a cat makes a friend they will stop at nothing to drive the point home.

Louis is a six-year-old Siamese cat from Devon, England and he’s got a very special friend of his own.

This furry feline has made the most enchanting relationship with a 5-year-old spotted pony named Comet.

Together, they go everywhere!

The best of friends are rather inseparable and go for rides through the countryside together. In Devon, the weather may not be so ideal, but this dynamic duo enjoys the surrounding scenery just as well. While their relationship may be a little unusual, they haven’t let their difference get in the way of a true friendship.

Both Louis and Comet are pets to professional horse trainer Emma Massingale.

When Massingale first adopted Louis as a tiny Siamese kitten she never imagined that he’d grow to become so close with her ponies.

She revealed to LoveMeow:

“Louis started off just following me to the stable and walking along the walls or fences nudging the horses with his head. Then he started to jump on their backs and sit there or jump on and then off the other side to get somewhere.”

And the rest is history!

It wasn’t long before Comet the pony took the hint and began taking Louis for impromptu rides around the farm and country. Massingale admits that Louis is a natural equestrian cat. She’s observed that he’s entirely at ease when he’s riding on the saddle. He enjoys the ride and the scenery and will tilt his head in the air to sniff and take in the fresh air.

“It all started when I was riding Comet and I would just tap my leg and Louis would jump on. Now all I have to do is tap Comet’s back and Louis is straight there. He doesn’t need any more encouragement than that. Louis rides whenever he likes really, sometimes just in the area sometimes he comes out for a longer wander.”

Massingale has noted that neighbors often do a double-take when they notice the unusual sight. It is, in fact, a sight to behold.

And Louis knows, in true cat fashion, that he’s the one in charge.

“Comet and Louis seem to be a good combo. If [Louis] wants the horse to stop, he bites the pony’s mane. It’s crazy but funny to watch,” Massingale said. “If Louis gets bored, he just jumps off. But he seems to love it as he stays up there for ages.”

And while Louis is an ‘intrepid explorer’, he will not be caught outside riding in the rain!

Massingale took to Facebook to share the unlikely pairing, winning over the hearts of thousands. She captioned the video, admitting that she normally doesn’t let anyone ride her liberty horses, but Louis remains the ‘purrfect’ apprentice. What’s not to love!
