The year is about to end, and Christmas is just around the corner.

While most people think about decorating their homes for the Yuletide season in December, some folks make it a point to have their ornaments up much earlier. This gives more time for planning and improving the beautiful decor, but did you know that this also is beneficial in some other ways?

Based on studies made by social experts, decorating for Christmas at an earlier time gives us a sense of nostalgia, leading us to be reminded of happy and nice memories. The feeling keeps us free from the stress brought about by adult life and the responsibilities we have.

Being a grown-up is not easy. It can be very stressful and difficult to cope with the daily challenges that adults experience. Seeing Christmas decorations by putting them up early gives us a chance to reconnect with the inner child in us.

We remember the feeling of being a child who worries about nothing and only cares about fun and happiness. Everybody wants to feel this way, right?

The mere sight of festive ornaments and beautiful lights across the Christmas tree can help in relieving stress and anxiety.

This is what Steve McKeown, Psychoanalyst, founder of MindFixers, and owner of The McKeown Clinic shared with UNILAD:

“Although there could be a number of symptomatic reasons why someone would want to obsessively put up decorations early, most commonly for nostalgic reasons either to relive the magic or to compensate for past neglect.”

Decorations for the Yuletide season also make us think positively, as it reminds us about the positive moments in our lives.

Being an adult is not easy, we all know that. And we often look for ways to escape the pressure and the fatigue that comes with trying to be as responsible as we can as we grow up.

It is very easy to be negative even after a fruitful day at work. Feeling the Christmas vibe earlier can help a lot in making things magical once again.

The Christmas decor we put up also makes us remember the beautiful memories we have with the people whom we love but who have already passed away.

According to a separate study done by Amy Morin, a psychotherapist and a best-selling author who wrote 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do, putting up Christmas decorations also leads us to remember the lovely memories shared with loved ones who already passed away.

“Perhaps the holidays serve as a reminder of when a loved one was still alive,” Amy Morin shared. “For people who have lost a loved one, the holidays may serve as a reminder of happy times they had with that person in the past. Decorating early may help them feel more connected with that individual.”

Truly, Christmas can come earlier along with its fun memories and feeling.
