Working from home can be great, but it also has its set of challenges. We’re not talking about WiFi capability or Zoom calls. We’re talking about when your pet can’t distinguish between work time and playtime. After all, it’s all play and no work for them. When you’re trying to work, this can cause a real “cat”astrophe.

Rebecca May and her husband Alex noticed that their cat Ziggy was all about cuddling on their laps. That’s great when you don’t have a computer in front of you and a phone resting on your shoulder.

Many of you may be familiar with the scenario.

You may be in the middle of work when your cat hears his internal snuggle alarm and looks for your lap to satisfy his craving. While that can be cute one time, it starts plummeting on the cute-o-meter when it happens several times a day and interrupts your workflow.

We know cats have no concept of this which doesn’t really help the situation. In fact, in this situation, Rebecca says Ziggy really wasn’t getting the message and kept climbing into her desk and her laptop.

This is when they knew things had to change. Their work situation wasn’t going to change, so something had to change with Ziggy.

Since he seemed to be all being near them, they bought a cat bed that they could put next to them while working. Ziggy wasn’t having it. That’s when they decided to get creative.

They realized he really just wanted a nap to chill on. So they made him one.

Alex went on 100% craft mode and got to work. He took a pair of pants and stuffed them so they looked like legs. Next, he put some shoes so that it really did look more life-like. The stomach was taken care of with a pillow. We all know part of the reason why cats like to go on human laps is that it’s warm. A heating pad inside the pants took care of that!

They weren’t sure if Ziggy was going to warm up to the idea or even buy it, but he did!

This was a win-win for everyone. Rebecca and Alex could get their work done and Ziggy could get his snuggle on any time he wanted thanks to the decoy.

After seeing the photos on Reddit, one person commented, “That’s the kind of inventive, out-of-the-box thinking that can dramatically increase the happiness of an indoor cat.”

Another said, “Omg this so funny and sweet! I also have a clingy cat who is all up in my business the minute I walk in the door. I need this for bedtime!”

Some people questioned whether it was the lap or the heating pad she loved, either way, it’s a winner with another person commenting, ” Omg! That’s adorable… faux lap! Can’t believe kitty fell for that!”

Rebecca admits that she can forget the faux lap is there and it can be a bit creepy. But, when Ziggy wants a lap and she’s slammed, it does the trick!

The next time your cat is on full snuggle mode and you can’t oblige, think about creating a decoy to get the job done!
