Family abandons their pit bull at shelter because they’re having a baby
There are some things that people do that we will never understand. To the average person, they just seem too cruel to ever contemplate. For one pit bull, the callousness of one family got her stuck at a shelter with no family to love her.
One family found out they were having a baby… and decided to get rid of their dog.
It’s hard to imagine, especially when you get a dog with the purpose of adding to the family. Dogs and babies just make a wonderful pairing! Stormy, an adorable pitty, was dropped off at a nearby shelter when her family surrendered her after finding out they were pregnant.
For most people, a dog like Stormy is a blessing to have when you have a small baby!
Stormy is a cute and absolutely gentle dog, the perfect kind to have around kids. They give kids that sense of security and provide an extra layer of protection to the home.
“He spent all of his life with a family with four children, two [other] dogs — one small, one big — and a cat, Then the woman got pregnant and had her fifth baby, and decided that he was too much.”- Alana Guerrini, Shelter Volunteer
The best decision that the family made was taking him to a shelter, not dumping him outside on the street.
When they brought the pup to the shelter, he had a different name – Freshly!
With his new life, however, the shelter thought he could do with a different name, and Stormy it was! Watching the poor dog confirmed what the volunteers thought about him – he was terrified and gentle as can be.
“You could see the fear and terror in his eyes in that picture [at the shelter], and you could see how broken hearted he was,” Guerrini said. “I looked at that face, and it absolutely crushed me.”
Life in the shelter wasn’t going to work for this kind-hearted dog.
Alana Guerrini, a volunteer, knew that this wasn’t the place for Stormy. To make matters even worse, he was on the waiting list to be put down because the shelter was so busy!
Alana stepped in at the literal last minute in order to save his life.
He was scheduled to be put down at 5:00 pm and Alana bust through the door at 4:58!
“He was due to be put down at 5 o’clock, and it was 4:58 or 4:59 when we got the word that ‘We’ll let you take him, and he’s officially yours and off of death row,’” Guerrini said.
Currently, Stormy is being fostered by Alana and has fallen in love with her son.
“He jumped into my car with no problems,” Guerrini said. “My son had gotten into the passenger seat, and he [Stormy] just climbed up onto my son’s lap, and you could see that with every little wiggle and face kiss that he was thanking him because he knew that he was going to live. He’s an angel.”
Since he grew up around people, he is incredibly affectionate and loving, a true family dog. All that’s left is for someone to find him and take him home forever!
Alana literally saved his life, now she is just waiting on someone to give him a new one!
