Photobombing has existed for as long as photography. But the young man who snuck into this photo was very welcome.

Most families get to experience road trips. The Richter family is no different.

One day, Erik Ritcher, Amber Ritcher and their three daughters all got into the car. They were going to go to Oregon for a well-earned vacation.

But unknown to most of the family was that someone was hiding at the very back of the car.

Before they all set off, Erik told his family that they should all pose for a photograph.

So all of the family members smiled. But what everyone except Erik didn’t realize was that he was recording, not taking a photo.

Erik told his family to say cheese. The man hiding at the back of the car knew that this was his cue.

Rowan, the family’s marine son and brother, rose up and posed for the photo with the rest of them.

Rowan had been able to come home on leave. He had only told his father, wanting his return to be a surprise.

Erik then said, “Wait, Rowan, a little to the right.”

At first, the girls were all confused. Then what Erik had said sunk in. They look looked behind them and screamed.

They hadn’t noticed their brother and son rising up.

Amazingly, Rowan, who they had thought was still overseas, was right there in the car with them.

Amber, especially, couldn’t stop screaming at the top of her lungs. Then she opened the passenger door and rushed to the back of the car, eager to hold her child.

Rowan started hugging his sisters, while he and his father were laughing. Their surprise couldn’t have worked any better.

Erik then revealed that he and his father had picked Rowan up from the airport the night before.

The video cut out there. Luckily, Erik then uploaded the footage onto YouTube. It soon went viral. To date, it has gained over 3.4 million views. It also has over 20,000 likes and 450 comments. People have been saying things like this:

But the day before this, Erik and Rowan had fit in another surprise.

Just after Erik and his father picked up Rowan from the airport, they drove to Erik’s father and mother’s house.

Erik and his father distracted their mother/wife while Rowan snuck in and hid in their living room.

Then Erik said that it was time for him to leave. So Erik’s mom came up to hug him.

As Erik and his mom were hugging, Rowan walked up. Erik’s mom then turned around and screamed when she saw Rowan out of the blue.

Then she laughed and shouted, “Shame on you!”

Next, she hugged Rowan. He would stay with his grandmother and grandfather that evening, so that he could spend some time with them before his Oregon vacation.

Needless to say, the Richter family had the best vacation of their lives. You could say their happiness over the next week was off the Richter scale.
