The Petersons’ parodies

According to their YouTube bio:

“This channel is full of videos about our family farm and what we do to take care of animals and grow crops. Our videos range from parodies, to informational videos, to entertainment videos, to our vlogs… It is our hope that these videos will give everyone who watches them a better understanding of what a real farm in the midwest looks like.”

The brothers even do speaking engagements and started a second, more serious YouTube channel “Peterson Family Farm” to post educational vlogs about their family farm.

But most of their tens of millions of views come from their parody videos, which they began making in 2012 with a viral hit called “I’m Farming and I Grow It,” (based on “I’m Sexy and I Know It” by LMFAO).

Other viral videos include 2012’s Farmer Style (a “Gangnam Style” parody), 2013’s A Fresh Breath of Farm Air (a Fresh Prince of Bel Air parody), and more recent hits such as 2018’s Tractorstuck (based on “Thunderstruck”), and 2019’s Crazy Grain (a “Crazy Train” parody).

Farmer Rock Anthem

Many of their videos have topped 1 million views. For example, the popular Farmer Rock Anthem, which features special guests Millennial Farmer, Welker Farms, and How Farms Work. It has over 1.7 million views.

It was posted in December of 2018 and features some pretty fancy footwork around the 2000-acre farm and some other select locations.

The whole point of the video is to show everyone (or at least anyone who eats food) that their plates are full because of farmers. Heck, they even help make the junk food!

Our favorite part is the big tractor breakdown (no, not that kind of breakdown).

Aside from the singing and dancing, it shows us a typical day on the farm during harvest season (though there’s no doubt plenty more work that goes into it). But the point is that they’re at the beginning of a supply chain that puts food on the table.

It’s easy to forget about farmers, especially if you live in a city and don’t often see crops growing around you. But the Peterson brothers are dedicated to changing that – and doing it in a way that also entertains people.

The reactions

And people loved it!

“The simple fact that they can shuffle in boots on gravel and kicked up dirt/mud takes mad respect from me,” said one viewer.

Most viewers understood (at least to some extent) the hard work it takes to farm and the importance of people like the Peterson brothers to the national economy. They even got props from soldiers!

“Farmers, on behalf of the US Army, Thank You for your service!”

The comments were filled with overwhelming thanks for all the hard work people like the Peterson brothers do.

“To all you farmers !! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO! Somehow a simple thanks does not seem adequate for all your do for the country! Your video was amazing!”
