Brave fast food worker immediately goes into “hero mode” when stranger’s kids start screaming
When Pedro Viloria turned to give the woman her food, he immediately sensed something was not right.
The McDonald’s employee had been working an early Tuesday morning shift when an off-duty police officer and her two children pulled up in an SUV.
At first, everything went smoothly. The woman paid for her order, and the trio quietly waited for their food. Then, out of nowhere, Viloria heard the children in the backseat start to scream:
“Mother, mother, stop it. Mother, what are you doing?”
Then, the SUV started rolling away.
Any other employee may have simply shrugged their shoulders and went on with their day – but at that moment, Viloria knew he had to help. He told ABC News:
“I see she’s, like, inflating her neck, trying to breathe… I basically thought there was something going wrong.”
After the woman paid, it appeared she had somehow suffered a medical emergency and gone unconscious in the car.
The quick-thinking employee jumped out of the drive-thru window and began chasing after the vehicle.
Luckily, Viloria caught up when the SUV ran into the curb of the restaurant’s parking lot. The frantic employee told the children to call 911, and they quickly obeyed. Luckily, however, a paramedic happened to be in the McDonalds at the time of the incident and a firefighter just happened to pull in shortly after.
McDonald’s was very proud of Viloria’s actions.
Although, by all accounts, Viloria is always a stand-up worker, so no one was really that surprised. In a statement, Alex Menendez, the restaurant’s owner, said:
“First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the officer and her family during this difficult time. I think I speak for our McDonald’s family when I say how proud we are of Pedro.”
“He is an excellent employee, so it didn’t surprise me that he took immediate action and jumped through a window to help save this woman.”
It truly is a blessing that Viloria happened to be on the scene. Who knows what would have happened if no one intervened?
However, Viloria is not the only heroic McDonald’s employee out there.
Last year, on Christmas Eve, the employees of a California McDonald’s were described as heroes for helping a woman in danger in the drive-thru.
According to reports, the woman had walked into the restaurant asking the employees to hide her from the man she was traveling with. When she was at the counter placing her order, the man ordered her to place her order from the car.
At some point during this encounter, the woman turned to the employees and mouthed “Help me.” Thankfully, the employees were able to delay the drive-thru line until officers showed up and intervened. Upon investigation, they located a firearm in the trunk.
According to a post by the sheriff’s office, Eduardo Valenzuela was arrested and booked in the San Joaquin County Jail for criminal threats, stolen property, and felon (prohibited person) in possession of a firearm.
We’d like to take a second to thank the hard-working, heroic employees McDonald employees like Viloria and the staff at the California location. People like you are truly essential.
