Most parents will describe the birth of their child as a miracle, or at least a beautiful moment. And Marc and Beth Hadden can definitely agree with that. Their daughter more or less stumbled into their lives, and it’s an incredible story about random fate.

Marc and Beth Hadden wanted a third child more than anything.

But they were told that due to Beth’s risky first two pregnancies, it would not be safe for them to conceive another child. Marc says:

“My wife was basically told to wrap it up, you know, that any further pregnancies could cause more complications for her and for, you know, the potential baby.”

They had considered adoption, but it didn’t seem possible with their salaries.

Marc is a firefighter, and Beth is a teacher. While these are both heroic jobs, they don’t typically pay enough to afford someone the ability to go through an adoption agency.

But things changed drastically one day when Marc was at work.

Marc got a call about a woman experiencing severe abdominal pain.

The woman was pregnant and going into labor, but there was not enough to get to the hospital. With no other choices, Marc delivered the baby himself. The woman gave birth to a little girl named Gracie. Marc recalls this amazing experience by saying:

“I was tasked with everything to do with Gracie… I helped her take her first breath.”

After the delivery, Marc took the woman to the hospital.

After the birth, he overheard a nurse saying that the baby needed to be adopted.

Marcs reaction?

“Throw my name in the hat if this baby’s being put up for adoption.”

Marc spoke to the mother of the little girl and told her all about his family and how badly they wanted another baby. He also spoke to his wife and sent her pictures of the newborn.

His wife, Beth, also responded with a touch of humor.

She joked about wishing she could keep the baby, but that didn’t stay a joke.

Within a few days, Marc and Beth brought the baby home.

They named her Rebecca Grace Hadden, but her nickname is Gracie.

When they brought home a baby on super short notice, their community stepped in.

Because they adopted a baby with only a few days notice, the Hadden’s were not well prepared for all the things a newborn needs. But fortunately, they have a supportive community who helped out a lot.

All sorts of people near and dear to the Haddens come through to donate baby necessities. Family, friends, and even coworkers came to the Haddens aid to with more baby supplies than they needed!

Marc, always joking, said he couldn’t even open his door because of all the baby supplies!

When Gracie was 5 years old, Marc gave another interview.

This time, the interview was with Inside Edition. In it, Marc could not contain his gushing. He gave an update on his daughter:

“Gracie has me wrapped around her finger. There’s no doubt about it.”

We are so happy for Marc, Beth, Gracie, and the whole Hadden family!

Marc was truly in the right place at the right time, and it’s almost a miracle that he got to adopt the little girl he helped deliver. It’s safe to say that just about every person in this story got pretty lucky the day Marc responded to that emergency call.
