Firefighters approach mom when they see her filling up her kids’ pool with a pot

The sun was out on this day in Charlotte, North Carolina.

A sunny day means cool drinks and, if you’re lucky, pool parties – assuming you’re invited.

A local fire station, the Charlotte Fire Station, had sent out one of their vehicles that day.

The engine that left the station was Engine 18, and it’d just completed a response to a medical call. Fire stations don’t get the same level of news-worthy praise that the police and hospitals do, but everyone knows how important they are.

Soon after their call, the Engine 18 team found another situation that they could respond to.

In the front yard of a home in Charlotte were a bunch of kids having a pool party – or at least, trying to. With them was a mother whose little boy was celebrating his birthday.

But there’s one thing about pools that’s always a bit of a chore – and that’s filling them up.

While the kids waited, this mom tried as quickly as possible to fill up the pool but she didn’t have a hose.

She was making do with filling pots from the sink and dumping the water into the pool, trip by trip.

It was obviously taking a while.

If only there were someone nearby with lots of water and a really powerful hose who could help….oh wait.

Did someone call Engine 18?

Charlotte’s finest firefighters couldn’t just stand by and watch the mom struggle.

If the little boy wanted a pool party, then he was about to get one.

They immediately came to a halt.

The wonderful Engine 18 team filled that pool up.

In a way, it was a surprise birthday present for the woman’s little boy.

With all the water that a fire engine can carry, there was more than enough to fill that pool up as deep as a kiddy pool could handle.

Charlotte Fire department was proud of the crew of Engine 18, as are the rest of us. These folks truly care about everyone in their neighborhood and clearly contribute more than just putting out fires. It’s pretty sweet to think that they made this boy’s birthday a whole lot better.

Below is Charlotte Fire Station 18’s Facebook post about that wonderful day.
