Firefighters rush to save dog that tumbled into the bay at Miami Beach
A local fire department’s rescue was caught on camera. A dog went over into the bay at Miami Beach while it was with its owner. The Miami Fire Department shared the moment on their Facebook page.
The poor dog tumbled over while playing with a woman at a dog park.
Fire Rescue Truck 22 and Engine 2 soon arrived with firefighters Jonathan Santis and Diego Escudero running over to help the dog.
“When we first got the call, we did get details that the dog weighed about 51 pounds,” Escudero said. “As soon as we heard that, I was like ‘Okay, that’s a pretty heavy dog.’ But once we got there, we saw that it was just the nicest dog and just wanted to get out of the water.”
The footage shows a firefighter using a roof ladder that he’s perched on the seawall.
The dog was paddling but struggling to stay afloat with the water about thigh deep.
The poor canine was panicking.
The firefighter took hold of the dog’s harness and helped her back to the ladder. Hoisting the wiggling dog over his right shoulder, a second firefighter begins his descent to assist the first as he makes his way up.
A third firefighter waiting up top grabs hold of the pup and sets her down.
The dog’s grateful owner addressed the small crowd and the rescuers saying, “I’m sorry guys,” even telling her dog to “say thank you” to the firefighters.
The dog shakes the water off as her apology and thank you!
According to Escudero, the dog was super grateful, kissing everyone and wagging her tail soon as she was out.
The owner eventually told the rescuers how how her dog ended up in the water.
“The first thing she says, ‘Oh, my dog, she loves the water. I let her off the leash for a little bit and looked away. Next thing I know, I hear this splash and then my dog was in the water.’” Escudero said.
“We’re so happy to have been able to help” the department wrote in the Facebook post.
In Streator, Illinois, a senior Golden retriever named Macy went missing for almost a whole day when she fell into a sinkhole. Volunteers went out searching with the help of a drone.
One of Macy’s park playmates, Wrigley, was out with his owner the next day when he saw his friend in the sinkhole. Wrigley sounded the alarm by barking at the spot. His owner immediately called emergency services.
The Streator Fire Department soon responded to the call.
Macy’s hip and leg problems meant she couldn’t use the ladder so Fire Chief Fred McClellan made his way down to wrap webbing across Macy’s abdomen, allowing the others to pull her up.
While the dog was on its way up and out, McClellan lost his footing. His engineer, Tim Redd, continued to pull Macy out. The rescue was a success with the dog “doing well and resting” back home.
