The winner of 'Best in Show' is an adorable dog named Trumpet

The Westminster Kennel Club dog show began in the year 1877 and has run every year since, that is 146 years of canine excellence.

In that 146 years, there has never been a bloodhound that has won the most coveted “Best in Show” prize, until now!

Meet Trumpet, the 4.5-year-old bloodhound who took home the prize at this years show.

Trumpet and his human handler, Heather Buehner, have been competing together since the pup was only 10 months old.

They have participated in many dog shows, from local ones in their area, to prestigious ones such as Westminster.

Trumpet is a pro at these competitions and always does his best to look as proud and regal as possible.

With his long floppy ears, and wrinkly forehead, he is also adorable to watch prance around as his whole face join in on the movement.

The wrinkles on bloodhounds are for more than just looking adorable though, it contributes to their amazing tracking abilities.

Scent gets caught in the wrinkle so the dog is able to smell it for longer and can, therefore, track farther.

Bloodhound noses are 100 times stronger than ours, making them extremely helpful in working with the police rescue services.

Due to the wrinkles being an important part of the breed, that was one thing the judges were looking out for, the more wrinkly the better.

Not only are bloodhounds great working dogs, but they are great family dogs as well.

They are kind and gentle and very loyal to their owners.

They are also great with children and most other animals.

However, bloodhounds have a lot of energy and need to be walked frequently.

It is also recommended that, if you plan on letting your dog out in the backyard without constant supervision, that you have a fenced in yard.

With a nose so powerful, bloodhounds often get carried away and will wander off before you notice, it can sometimes seem like they are sniffing out trouble.

Bloodhounds are also very large dogs, they usually grow to about 25 inches and can weigh around 100 pounds.

Trumpet is an incredible example of what a bloodhound should ideally look like, he it not too big, nor too little, he is just the right size.

His muscle structure shows through his soft, silky coat, and he stands tall and proud with his tail at attention.

Though he won the coveted “Best in Show” prize, Trumpet is not without a few blemishes.

The top of his nose has some slight discoloration and a small slant to it, but as Heather said, he is a pet first.

He has helped with rescue training in his local area and therefore his nose shows some wear and tear.

But that only adds to this pooches charm.

Bloodhounds are a wonderful and majestic breed and it is about time for them to finally be recognized as the beautiful dogs they are.

And no one was more deserving of the grand prize than Trumpet!
