Fold just a few layers of ribbon over a needle to make beautiful ribbon roses
Christmas is just around the corner and that means you have a lot to prepare and decorate.
As you go on about the gifts youâll be giving, you might wonder why some of your giveaways or wrappings come as a bit bland or boring.
It doesn’t have to be so.
Glitters and sprinkle-ons might be perfect for kids, but not for you.
How can you bedazzle your gifts?
In this article, weâll teach you how to make thumb-sized ribbon roses.
For this project, youâll need some polyester satin ribbon.
Ideally, youâd want to have a shade closer to a rose but, then again, you can be creative and choose different colors as well.
We’ll use a 1/2-inch width ribbon.
For this project, youâll also need some scissors and, most importantly, a fairly large sewing needle with a threading hole on the tail.
Preferably a darner needle around 17 gauge to 15.
First, letâs prepare the most important thing here â the ribbon.
Measure 51 centimeters of ribbon. You can use your carpenterâs tape measure for this task.
Then, cut it from the roll and seal the ends with a small flame.
Be careful! Do not put the flame directly on the edge.
Put the ribbon close to the flame carefully and youâll see it melt off and seal it. This will prevent the ribbon from fraying or coming apart at the seams.
Measure your needle from the tip.
Mark 4 centimeters as this will be your working âareaâ for this needle.
Then, measure 5 centimeters from one end of the ribbon. Mark that measurement because this is where weâll start.
From the mark, punch in your sewing need at the right edge of the ribbon.
Run the needle under the ribbon and punch it through the far opposite side.
You should end up with a ribbon folded over itself and forming a v-shape.
Beautiful already, isn’t it?
Then, run the needle over the ribbon and punch it to the far opposite side.
You should end up on the right side of the ribbon once again.
From here on, run the needle over the ribbon but still punch through the opposite edge.
Soon enough the ribbon will wrap around the needle. Youâll notice that your ribbonâs edges are fastened to a center point which is your needle.
Turn your work over.
You’ll want the threading hole side up.
Then, snip the end diagonally.
Use the tip of that edge to thread the ribbon into the needle. Gently twist the needle.
Youâll notice that your ribbon will follow too.
Twist the needle enough times until your ribbon turns into a rose.
Once you get to your desired shape and size, seal the ribbon rose by pulling the needle down.
The other end should come out to the other side of the rose.
Look at your ribbon rose forming!
Snip off the excess fabric then just like what we did earlier, seal the edges using a lighter or candle.
Remember not to put the fabric directly. Just put it close enough to melt. There you have it, a ribbon rose perfect for decorating.
