NFL player heard on mic looking for his mama in the crowd

If you’re lucky enough to have a great mom, you know you’re never too old or too tough to find her presence comforting. If you think we’re wrong, go ahead and take it up with Jerome Baker, Jr.

We’ll wait.

A video of the 22-year-old Miami Dolphins linebacker went viral in early November because Baker was mic’d during the game for NFL Films and Showtime’s Inside the NFL – and he could be heard repeatedly asking for his mama.

Both venues shared the sweet and hilarious video which has now been watched by millions.

It turns out Baker had sent his mother, Theodora, a ticket to the game, but he wasn’t sure if she was going to make it.

She had flown in from Cleveland for the weekend and was staying in his home (so he did see her that day before the game), but he was really hoping she made it to the game to see them winning.

She had previously come to town for the team’s home opener, where they got blown out by the Baltimore Ravens.

Throughout the game, he had been scanning the crowd looking for her but didn’t see her face. That’s when he started asking about her on the sidelines.

“Bro, where is my mama” he yells to a teammate frustratedly.

He even stops singing the Dolphins’ fight song on the sidelines a bit later to wonder about her out loud yet again.

In fact, he couldn’t stop asking “where is my mama?” He was caught asking himself the question so many times that The NFL Network put together a montage of all the clips of him asking about her.

When they put it out on Twitter, Baker said he was “dying laughing” when he saw it. He had completely forgotten that he was mic’d.

Hey, what can we say, it’s hard to make out a single face in such a big crowd of people.

“It was just funny. You don’t realize how many times I was saying it, but I was saying it so much. The video made it funnier,” Baker said. “It was like the whole game, I was saying, ‘Where’s my mom? Where’s my mom?’ It was just a funny moment I didn’t realize, but I was definitely looking for my mom a lot.”

Oh, and most importantly, he found her.

Theodora made it to the game to see her son’s team win their first victory of the season. The two locked eyes during a key play when Baker was on a part of the field near her seat.

“I was so close so I could see peoples’ faces. So when I found her, she was waving at me, and I waved back. I finally found her. Everything worked out.”

The only reason she might have missed it was that she had been planning to make a big, homemade meal for her son and he was worried that she had stayed home to prepare it for him instead of coming to the game.

We can’t help but smile at the moment Baker turns to his teammate at the end of the video to say “I found my mama.”
