Christian Care Shelter in Rock Island, Illinois, announced that they desperately needed supplies for the homeless. They found support from an unlikely source.

Some people say that kids nowadays only think of themselves. Those people haven’t heard about children like Nathan Simons.

Like most nine-year-old boys, Nathan loves to watch his favorite personalities on YouTube. And one day, those YouTubers taught him about the importance of charitable donation. He watched as these people gave hundreds of thousands of dollars of their money to the needy. These videos inspired Simons to do something similar.

He may not have had hundreds of thousands of dollars, but he was determined to do all that he could to help the less fortunate.

He discovered that Christian Care in his town desperately needed supplies. So he told his dad, Ethan, that he wanted to empty his savings account and buy the supplies that the people in the shelter needed.

Simons’s dad was humbled by his son’s selflessness. He agreed that it was a great thing to do.

He also told his son that there was $150 in his savings account. But the good news was that he would match his son’s donation, giving him $300 to spend.

So the father and son drove to the bank. When the boy asked to take all of his money out of his account, the teller was confused.

Then Simons explained that the money was going to a good cause. Simons’s dad also took out $150 from his account.

Their next stop was the local Walmart. In the store, they packed a shopping cart full of shoes, clothes, food and drink.

Christian Care had posted a list of what they needed, making the purchasing easier.

Eventually, Simons and his dad had a shopping cart filled to the brim with goods.

The dad had been keeping a tally of the cost of their purchases. They had a little extra cash after completing the list. So Simons added some soda and cakes.

When the father and son arrived at the homeless shelter, the volunteers couldn’t believe what they were seeing.

For the first time in months, they had enough supplies to go around. They were incredibly grateful to the pair, and thanked them wholeheartedly. Nathan Simons was completely humble, telling the volunteers that it was the right thing to do.

“It feels good. I wish I could have it myself, but I have to think about other people sometimes.” – Nathan Simons.

A number of people had donated Christian Care over the years, but none had been as young as Simons. The volunteers told him about this and said that he was an amazing young man.

On the drive back home, the father told his son that he was proud of him. “You did a good thing today my son,” he added.

A news team filmed the father and son as they did their bit to help others. The news story later made its way onto Facebook, where it made a huge impact.

To date, the video has had tens of thousands of views. It also has a number of comments from people who have been wowed by Nathan Simons. People have been saying things like this:
