Artist transforms old gas tank into a brain-twisting 3D illusion of a Sphynx cat

A lot of people don’t like street art. They associate it with graffiti which is considered vandalism and illegal writing. However, street art is different from that. In fact, instead of destroying a space, it actually reinvents and reconstructs.

A French artist is leaving a lot of people blown away by his street art.

Tom Bragado Blanco, also known as Braga last1, is becoming popular for being a 3D drawing magician. He uses anamorphic illusions and 3D paintings to make his masterpieces blend with their surroundings.

One of the most impressive pieces Tom has under his belt is a cat painting.

Like most of his masterpieces, it’s not an ordinary painting. It’s quite unique since he picked an unusual canvas.

Tom used an old gas tank for the project.

He found the tank in the middle of a field. Its location made his work even more outstanding.

The artist used a complicated technique.

It’s called anamorphosis. For it to work, a person needs to put himself at a specific point to see the optical illusion.

Tom admitted that the process isn’t that easy to explain.

For most people, it didn’t matter. His masterpiece was enough to leave them speechless.

The artist used a special subject.

He chose the sphynx cat on purpose. A cat breed that’s native to Canada, it’s well-known for looking naked because it has no fur.

He shared:

“I used this cat because it is my girlfriend’s cat. During this confinement period, I am inspired by what we have around us.”

When you look at the painting at a certain angle, the cat appears to be walking through the landscape.

The more you look at it, the more amusing it gets. The painting looks so real, particularly with how well it blends with the surrounding. You wouldn’t even notice the tank!

Tom is a self-taught artist.

Looking at his pieces, it’s easy to assume that Tom took an art class to enhance his skills- but that’s not the case. He started drawing when he was a little child, learning about street art at an early age.

He started his career by customizing caps, sneakers, and shirts.

Eventually, people started hiring him to paint in public places. He also made art pieces for different businesses, theaters, and hotels.

Tom has a lot of popular pieces.

He uploads photos of his projects on his Instagram account. There, he has over 29,000 followers.

Here are some of his most loved creations:

Meanwhile, this art project was made for the Upfest Festival, a street art and graffiti festival.
