Garbageman interacts with Golden Retriever not knowing dog’s family is recording

For many dogs, garbage trucks are a major disturbance and can trigger unwanted behavior.
Many dogs, no matter what breed they are or what size they come in, have a frantic reaction when a garbage truck approaches them or their home.
And it actually makes perfect sense.

This kind of truck looks immense in the eyes of our four-legged friends, not to mention it is loud in so many ways.
Dogs pick up on these thing.

Starting from their squeaky brakes, garbage trucks can make a lot of noise when they stop by your front yard to collect the trash.
Apart from that, they usually have machinery that is used to compress the garbage once out of the garbage can, which makes a whole lot of noise.
It isn’t the most pleasant thing.

Besides all that, having a stranger stopping by every so often to pick up stuff from in front of your house is not a pleasant feeling- especially if you are a canine.
You see, dogs have inherited this instinct of protecting their territory from their ancestors- that is, wolves.
Wolves and their human-friendly cousins, dogs, live in packs- in the case of dogs it seems that their human family also counts as members of the pack.
But some dogs are different.

Canines are “programmed” to protect their pack and their territory from invaders, which in this case is the garbage man.
And this is exactly why every now and then dogs are found to chase the mailman or the garbage man that just happened to stop by their house to do their job.
But sometimes it’s for positive reasons.

In the case of Shelby the Golden Retriever, things are a bit different.
She has no problem with the garbage man.
Actually, she loves seeing him.
And she even lets him pet her and give her head rubs.
Shelby’s owner, Joshua Byrne, had noticed that his pet acted weird when the garbage truck was approaching, so he decided to hide a camera and film Shelby’s reaction to the truck to see where this behavior came from.

One day he hid a camera.
The goal was to capture Shelby’s interaction with the garbage man.
Once the truck started approaching, Shelby started wagging her tail as if she was waiting for something exciting to happen.
Moments later, the truck was right by their front yard, and the garbage man was outside to greet his furry friend- or, should we say fan?

Anyway, Shelby rushed to the man and made it clear that he was a friend of hers.
Her tail and her overall behavior didn’t leave any doubt when it comes to her feelings about him.
Joshua was glad to see that his pet had a new friend and he was happy to have captured this encounter on camera.
The video took off online.
The viral video has garnered more than half a million views on YouTube, and people are loving the duo.

“Same I have no inhibitions when I see a dog. Of course I say hello to the pet owner first” someone wrote.
