Expert gardener has a nifty way of planting things without using a shovel

Gardening is not and will never be easy, but it’s a productive way of killing boredom at home. Especially now that most of us are on home quarantine.

It also requires physical work, manpower, and power tools.

Luckily, this gardener found a smart way of doing the dirty work in the field.

He came up with a hands-free shovel!

One day, Reddit user Georgeyk17 shared a video and captioned it New hands-free shovel! It’s a video of himself while in the field trying to make it greener by planting some new plants.

Normally, this type of labor requires some dirty work, heavy tools like a shovel, and tremendous energy.

Well, not for him. He’s found the best helper in the world, his dog!

The dog stood up to the popular saying that they are “man’s best friend,” because instead of letting her dad do all the digging, she offered her paws as her dad’s hands-free shovel.

In the same video, he just points exactly where he wants his dog to dig and his sidekick pooch relentlessly digs the soil with pure ease.

The dog seems to be so excited about her new job and it’s pretty obvious that she enjoys getting her paws dirty.

Good dog!

Do dogs really garden?

That’s yet to be determined, but as far as gardening is concerned, dogs do not need shovels or any tools for digging. They are born with paws and that’s more than enough to do the job.

Naturally, they probably think about “playtime” whenever they dig holes on the ground but, did you know a dog became famous because of gardening? Yes, you read it right.

To set things straight, he’s not the actual gardener though, he just appeared on a famous gardening program. Sadly, Nigel passed away just recently.

The dog’s name is Nigel and according to Wikipedia:

“Nigel (17 May 2008 – 11 May 2020) was a male golden retriever dog owned by Monty Don, a British television gardening presenter. Nigel was known for his appearances on the BBC Two gardening programme, Gardeners’ World, on which he was seen, with Don’s other dog Nellie, following the presenter around his garden and sometimes playing with a tennis ball. Apart from his television appearances, Nigel was the subject of a parody Twitter account.”

She definitely gets the job done!

It was clear that the dog and her human dad made a perfect tandem on the field. All thanks to the dog’s claws, digging and landscaping has never been so swift and easy.

We’ll never know if it was just all playtime for the dog, but one thing’s for sure, it was a “good job” in her dad’s eyes.

A Reddit user even commented on the video, and wrote:

“Everytime I see something like this, I always one step further to buying pet.”

To which the OP replied by writing:

“Make the jump and you’ll never go back. such loyal companions.”

Gardening is something that will save us from the dark shades of boredom. Not only because it’s productive, but it also promotes a healthier environment and makes a greener world.

We need more of this gardener dad and dog duo in the world, wouldn’t you agree?
