Important information you should know when planting your strawberry plants.
Based on The Farmer’s Almanac, you need to plant the strawberries as soon as the ground can be worked in the spring. Also, they prefer loamy soil that drains well with a pH of between 5.5 and 7. You can try working in aged manure or compost a couple of months before planting.
Since strawberry plants require 6-10 hours a day of direct sunlight, make sure that you place the laundry baskets at a place that is well lit. Immediately water your strawberry plants too after planting them. This enables them to settle their roots into the soil.
Water your strawberry plants about one inch per square foot per week. They need a lot of water especially when the flowers and runners are developing. Pull out weeds too.
Your strawberries are ready for harvesting 4-6 weeks after blossoming.
Only harvest the ripe berries and pick every three days. Cut the stem to avoid damaging the plant. Then store your berries for 3-5 days in the refrigerator.
