Introducing “gardenscape focaccia”. This mashup of intricate design and bread baking has taken Instagram by a storm, with thousands of people attempting their own designs to varying levels of success.

Some of the best examples on the internet show us just how beautiful gardenscape focaccia can look. Bakers have managed to turn their focaccia bread into works of art, selecting brightly-colored veggies and displaying them in all sorts of interesting designs.

As you can imagine from the name, gardenscape focaccias mostly depict scenes of nature, with trees, plants, flowers and even the sun all fashioned out of creatively selected vegetables.

With Instagram being so focused on the visual, it’s unsurprising that this is really where the trend has taken off. Most breads featured by the app’s best bakers combine the likes of tomatoes, asparagus, onions, peppers, mushrooms, seeds and miniature flowers to showcase a beautiful garden display.

One of the Instagramers who has seen real success with her bakes is @blondieandrye, of North Carolina. Hannah, the woman behind the bakes, has impressed her nearly 200-thousand-strong followers with her stream of beautiful bread creations – and she never seems short of creativity.

Amazingly, Hannah isn’t a professional by any means, and even writes in her bio: “Improvisation over discipline, for better or for worse.” Her creations look as if hours of forethought and preparation have gone into them, but by the sounds of her “wing it” attitude, they simply evolve as she creates them.

The attention to detail on Hannah’s designs is what makes them such standout bakes on Instagram.

Many of us may defend our own slightly ugly bakes by saying, “It’s the taste that matters.” And we’re not ones to argue with that, but while we have so much time on our hands, why not make a real effort to turn your bread bakes into works of art?

Making your own gardenscape focaccia isn’t quite as tricky as it seems. The most difficult part of the whole process is making the bread, but once you’ve got that mastered, you can get onto the fun bit.

The best thing about the gardenscape focaccia trend is that there’s no set way to create your bake. You don’t even need to follow a specific recipe – just choose whichever focaccia recipe appeals to you most. When it comes to the design, you’re free to use your favorite veggies to create your own shapes, patterns and designs.

It’s best to opt for veggies that will naturally roast in the oven, like tomatoes and onions. But nobody’s going to stop you from using whatever you want! You’re the one who gets to eat your design, after all.

So if you’re ready for a real baking challenge by this point in quarantine, make gardenscape focaccia your next big bake. We do warn you, though: once you start making your colorful creations, there’s no going back…
