Gary Sinise unveils “Veterinarians for Valor” charity for K-9s and military dogs
Gary Sinise has definitely made a name for himself in Hollywood, and his most famous role is perhaps the one of Lieutenant Dan from Forrest Gump.
After the success of this wildly popular movie, Sinise also starred in ten seasons of CSI: New York, something the younger public will be more familiar with.
Even though his characters in the military and the police were just roles for Sinise, the famous actor has always been passionate about helping our men and women in uniform.
Now, the actor and his foundation are helping our service dogs, too!
In fact, the man already created the Gary Sinise Foundation years ago, a beautiful charity that helps veterans and first responders in need.
They assist the men and women who protect our country and make sure their families are doing okay as well.
“Freedom and security are precious gifts that we, as Americans, should never take for granted. We must do all we can to extend our hand in times of need to those who willingly sacrifice each day to provide that freedom and security. While we can never do enough to show gratitude to our nation’s defenders, we can always do a little more,” Gary Sinise wrote.
The Foundation does quite a lot of things for military families and those of first responders.
For example, they distribute meals all around the country for veterans, and they also build adjusted homes for wounded soldiers.
Of course, given the current situation in the world right now, it’s not exactly easy to spread the help around.
However, the foundation recently organized an indoor cycling fundraiser for first responders who are fighting against COVID-19 and the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Even though we clearly have a pandemic to deal with, the foundation definitely won’t forget about those who risk their lives to save ours – including the ones who have more than two feet.
Sinise recently founded a new initiative for the brave dogs in uniform amongst us: Veterinarians for Valor.
The actor wants to make sure that the heroes on four paws aren’t forgotten, because these brave canines who served are often in need of help as well.
The Gary Sinise foundation partnered up with numerous vets from the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Science. Thanks to the financial support of the foundation, police K-9 units will be able to receive free medical care as well as meals.
Aside from the K-9 dogs in police units, service dogs, military dogs, and pooches of military families will also be eligible for VFV benefits.
The Gary Sinise Foundation hopes that they can raise as much money as possible to help out these dogs in need, who are often forgotten.
They hope that a lot of people would be willing to donate an amount to the cause, but they also want to raise awareness for our brave furry friends who would help us out in a heartbeat.
This time, it’s our turn to help.
Just like with the regular foundation, people can choose to donate a single amount or set up a recurring monthly donation. All you need to do is fill in some basic information.
Since the foundation is a registered nonprofit organization, donations are also tax-deductible.
In any case, it looks like service dogs and K-9’s who also risk their lives to help us will be getting some extra help now, thanks to this generous new charity program.
