Gas attendant paid for woman’s fuel and gets rewarded with 8 years of salary

You never know what your small kindness can turn into in someone’s life – even total strangers.

When one woman was stranded on the highway with no gas or money, she was worried about how she would get out and home safe.

When she was finally able to make it to the gas station to fill up, she realized her situation was worse than she thought. She didn’t have cash, cards, or any form of payment to get gas with and seemed totally out of luck.

As she tried to go and pay to get gas, the realization hit her.

Thankfully, this was her lucky day. Instead of having to call someone to come out to her for help, Nkosikho Mbele was working that day. Nkosikho was understanding and recognized that the poor woman was in quite a bad situation.

He noticed her in the parking lot and walked up to wash her windows.

When Monet saw that he was trying to wash her windows, she tried to stop him. It’s normal to tip the workers and she had nothing to her name at the moment.

“I had this strange feeling that I forgot my card. I then started looking for it, and while I was searching, Nkosikho started washing my windows,” van Deventer said to Times Live.

She told him that she didn’t have money and wasn’t able to pay him for the windows, let alone gas.

“I said to him, thanks for washing my windows but I can’t put petrol in today. He seemed stressed and shocked because he was looking at my fuel needle which was already in the red,” she added.

The 28-year-old worker knew that he couldn’t let the woman head out with her tank nearly empty with no money on her. Things could get dangerous fast. Instead, he made a deal with her!

The deal was a good one – he would pay for her gas!

The bill was one hundred rands (about seven dollars USD) and he took his own card to pay it.

“He said to me, ‘ma’am, you can’t run out of petrol on the N2’. And he said, ‘I’ll pay R100 and whenever you are near again you can just give me back my R100’,” Monet said.

She assumed it was something the company, Shell, offered, but no! It was purely something that he did out of the kindness of his heart.

Later on, the woman came back!

“I was so grateful that she came back. I could see in her eyes that she appreciated my help, you know when someone sees that you have done something for them. I could see it in her eyes that she really appreciated that I had done something for her,” Mbele said.

It wasn’t just chocolates, however. She did something amazing for him.

“Since Nkosikho saved my life I would love to do something in return for him,” she wrote on the fundraiser page. “His 2 children, mom and brother lives with him in Khayelitsha and he will really benefit from any donations.”

They were able to earn enough money to pay his salary for 8 years! The total? $94,000! Now THAT’S a gift!
