Gas station incident about Christmas leaves one mom in an embarrassing pickle

Have you ever done something so ridiculous that you couldn’t help but laugh about it? Perhaps you had a “moment” that you just had to share with millions of people via social media? Or what about this, have you ever embarrassed yourself so bad that you landed on the Ellen DeGeneres show? Yeah me neither. But one mom did.

You know, there’s a trick to life. It’s called poking fun at yourself when you do something so bizarre and funny. Instead of keeping it to yourself, it’s much better to share. Not only will your oopsie make other people laugh but it also shows them that you’re just a normal human being.

Even if you don’t find her story funny, the way she tells it will leave you in stitches.

We all love Christmas. After all, it’s the “most wonderful time of the year.” It’s also the season where people try to do good things for others, including total strangers. One mom, Mary Katherine Backstrom, who’s also a popular blogger wanted to bring magic to other people’s lives this year. But when she tried, she ended up in an embarrassing situation.

She explains everything via a Facebook post that quickly went viral.

As the story goes, she was on her way to pick up her 3 and 5-year-old children from school. But before she made it, she had to stop at the Wawa gas station to grab a couple of things. As she walked inside, she was busy reading an article about how people shoe their generous side during the Christmas season.

The article had an impact on her so she wanted to do something kind for someone.

There she was, standing in line at the gas station to pay for her items when she spotted a woman behind her. The only thing the lady had was a bottle of Gingerale. It might’ve been a small gesture, but Katherine offered to buy the drink. The woman graciously accepted her offer, followed by the two of them spending a few minutes to chat.

Then she saw someone doing something nice for her.

As Katherine turned to walk to her car, she saw a stranger cleaning her windshield. With magic in the air, she approached the man to thank him. In her mind, he must’ve seen the kindness she showed to the woman and felt compelled to carry on the holiday spirit by doing something nice for someone else. Instinctively, Katherine gave the man a big hug to show her gratitude.

That’s when things go…well, not as she expected.

As she explains in her video, “So, I walk up to this man and I am like ‘This is my favorite part of humanity! I love Christmas so much, thank you for doing this,’ and I give him a hug. It wasn’t my car!” She was so overwhelmed with both embarrassment and the comedy of the situation, all she could do was burst out in laughter.

She thought it was HER car.

Come to find out, it was just another customer cleaning the windshield of his vehicle. Katherine couldn’t contain herself. So, she drove to another parking lot, logged onto Facebook live, and told the world about her mistake. As she tells the story, she’s in absolute hysterics. Yes, the story is funny but her delivery of what happened is even funnier.

It seems that other people got a good laugh too. To date, her video has been shared more than 44 million times by 145,000 different people. As one viewer posted, “oh my stars…my cheeks are hurting so hard. I so need this.” On a more serious note, another person wrote, “That hug may have been just what that man needed to remind him of the magic of Christmas.”
